AFS 24mm 1.4 and 16-35 F4 VR

Interesting, finally something more practical and useful from Nikon ... presuming they're both to be FX

But what's the price of the 24 f/1.4 going to be?

From Robert White web site, the 35 f/1.4 manual focus is just over £1,000  ... can't imagine the 24 AF-S to be any cheaper?

The 16-35 f/4 also looks interesting, especially since they no longer make the 17-35 f/2.8 which was a mistake to discontinue me thinks

Look at the price of the Canon 24mm f/1.4 L USM II and you can have an idea. The Nikon is expected to be slightly more expensive. :)
Just hope it doesn't cost the same as the Nikkor 28mm f/1.4!

About the 16-35mm VR, it seems a very interesting lens, depending on the price. Canon sells the excellent 17-40mm L with a good price tag, but it doesn't come with image stabilization.

Joe there's a few threads about these on here.

The 24 is going to cost £1500-2000 if it does come out. I'm more interested in the 50/1.2 :D

I got an e-mail this morning mentioning the same thing. Looking forward to it.

Thought I'd save you the effort Stewart

Hmmm. Still no new Nikon lenses today, it seems.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the first thing to remember about lens rumours is that they're VIRTUALLY ALWAYS WRONG.

Let's look at the lenses that have been announced/introduced over the last year or so. Who predicted ANY of the following?

Jan 10 - Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM
Dec 09 - Nikon AF-S 300mm f/2.8 G ED VR II
Dec 09 - Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III
Dec 09 - Nikon AF-S DX 85mm f/3.5 G VR Micro
Sep 09 - Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Sep 09 - Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Sep 09 - Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro
Jul 09 - NikonAF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 G ED VR II
Jul 09 - Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II
Apr 09 - Nikon AF-S DX 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED
Feb 09 - Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L II
Feb 09 - Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 L
Feb 09 - Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 G

Pretty much nobody, that's who.

And then there are the perennial rumours of the next thing in the pipeline. For example:

- Canon EF 100-400mm Mk II
- Canon 300/2.8, 400/2.8, 500/4, 600/4 Mk II
- Canon 24-70 f/2.8 IS
- Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4 G
- Nikon 100-500mm or somesuch

These have been predicted for ages, but I don't see any of them on the shelves yet.

Sure, if you "predict" enough different things and your approach is sufficiently scattergun, you're bound to get the odd one right. But I reckon 99% of stuff that's talked about new lenses is misguided.

If they only announce the 24 and the 16-35 I'll be very disappointed.

On another note. I said I didn't want one, I lied... Anyone found the UK price yet?

Pete

AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR:
Price: $1259.95

AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED
Price: $2199.95

we can now guess how much it will be in UK...

It seems lens prices are going up and up - and at a time when prices for work are down down. Takes a lot of pics to pay for these two.

I do NOT need another lens . . .
I do NOT need another lens . . .
I do not NEED another lens . . .
I do NOT need another lens . . .
I DO not need another lens . . .

if only I could type :)

hehehe I think for me 35 f2 will have to do for a while :)

UK MSRP:

24mm f1.4 - £1949 (Canon is £2010)
16-35mm f4 VR - £1049 (Canon 17-40 is £949)

24mm f1.4 - £1949 (Canon is £2010)
16-35mm f4 VR - £1049 (Canon 17-40 is £949)

Maybe people can stop moaning about how exspensive it is now... But I doubt it!

I think one of those 24's will find it's way into my bag :)

Perhaps I'm getting old but those prices really do seem rediculous.

Having said that, a quick check reveals that the actual street price of the Canon 17-40 is £560 ish. So hopefully the 16-35 will be nearer the £800 mark come release.

And the 24mm Canon seems to go for just over £1300. So hopefully £1500 will be nearer the mark come release.

Most of my lens buying was done just before the price hikes of last winter. Now that new lenses are hitting the market I'm really noticing just how expensive these things have become.

I have to say, the image samples from the 24/1.4 look lovely but, really, £1950 RRP ? That seems like a very high ask for such a lens, £1,499 might have made it appear a little more palatable, though maybe that's just wishful thinking on my behalf?

I'd be very surprised if the street price doesn't drop to the £1,500 mark from the rrp after its been on the market for three or four months. Thats what normally happens he says wishfully :)

Got to wait to see what the street prices settle at but the rrp price of the 16-35 seems especially extreme to me, I've been waiting to see this lens appear but I think I'll see if a used 17-35 comes up

I assume Nikon are going to stick VR on every zoom from here on out...hell of a precedent sticking VR on a lens as short as 16-35...
