Aeroplanes and my DSLR

Hi All,

May sound a silly question however I don't know where else I can get an answer.

We are goig to Florida in November, I will ofcourse be taking my Oly however can I take it onboard a plane or does it have to go in the hold?

I keep the camera in a Tamrac rucksack that keeps all the kit (including 3 batteries, lenses, CF cards etc) would that be okay to take onboard? I'm worried about the spare batteries mainly.

Took mine on hols as hand luggage including batteries, flash, cards and spares etc, check the weights and dims of your bag with the airline but should be ok as hand luggage.

yup hand luggage all the way, you've no idea what can happen to it once it goes into the hold !

I took my bag as hand luggage earlier this year, no problems whatsoever.

Hand luggage will be fine but if you would like further reassurance just e-mail the airline / travel operator you're flying with

I've only got a TAMRAC ADVENTURE 6 so should be plenty small enough

Just wondering if 6gig storage will be enough for 7 days

I have some spare CF cards...I could stick them in the post and you could return them when you get back....better to be on the safe side....4Gb extra should see you safe.

aye true enough, Hopefully going to find a nice flash out there and pretend it had always been in my bag if customs ask

Although play.com deal on Sandisc Extreme iii 2gig and 4gig is a pretty good price.

Two vitally important things to remember.

1. You're only allowed to take one bag as carry-on these days. So if you want to carry anything useful for the flight (book, magazine, food, iPod, etc.) or at the other end (coast, etc.) then it all has to go into that one bag along with your camera gear.

2. Different airlines have different rules regarding the maximum size and weight of carry-on bags. The Department for Transport sets an absolute maximum for all UK-originating flights (56x45x25cm, no formal weight limit) but airlines are free to impose more restrictive limits if they wish. Some do. For example:
- BA allows the full 56x45x25cm; the weight doesn't matter if you can lift it into the overhead bin
- Virgin Atlantic only allows 56x36x23cm and a weight limit of 6kg
- First Choice only allows 45x35x20cm and a weight limit of 5kg.
Check and double-check what your airline allows.
