Have recenetly been looking at ring flashes and theres quite a lot of different types.

I've been looking at the Sigma EM-140 but with the amount of choices available I was just wondering what ring flashes other users of the forum use and which do you find to be best?

I'd be using it mainly for Macro and Portraiture Photography.

Are the cheaper LED ring flashes around £40 on eBay any good?

Any advice and help would be much appreciated

Thanks
Paul

Macro wise the Sigma is supposedly a fair bet, seems not far of the price of the Nikon unit though from some shops, I had a play with the Nikon R1C1 once and that was superb.

The incredibly cheap stuff from ebay I'd avoid though personally.

Macro ring lights or similar small macro lights aren't really suitable for portraiture though.
It's a different ball game altogether when you come to light a much larger subject. The light source is much too small for anything above a face shot never mind a head shot. :(

Lencarta do a very fairly priced 600ws ring flash, probably the cheapest decent one on the market in all honesty.

I think the Marumi ring-flash is pretty good for £100. Not really up to portraiture though.

If you have a hot-shoe gun, this RingFlash Adapter is pretty good http://www.flaghead.co.uk/pages/ringflash-intro.html I have one for my Canon 580EX and it's good for both macro and portaits. There is also a cheaper one around, that looks identical, called a Coco RingFlash.
