Hello,
I'm going in holliday and looking to camera bags they always favorised huge space for the camera, the 3-4 other lens, the tripod, the filter....

I'm looking for a backpack to take only one camera maybe with a second small lens but with some space to put other stuff like food, water, jumper....

Do there is any good bag to consider, i saw the tamrack pack 8 online but the top compartment look really small.

Any advise?
Or maybe I should consider a small camera bag and put it into an other normal bag.

Thanks
Thomas

I love lowepro bags. Their website even has a bagfinder function to help you choose the right one for your needs. We have several of different sizes fir different reasons. Plus usually their camera sections have Velcro pullouts so you can reconfigure then exactly for your lens etc.

Try the Lowepro Fastpack series. Bottom half of bag for camera and lenses and top half for the rest of your stuff. I use the 350 which is the biggest one.

I have the Fastpack 350. Excellent bag but not the lightest thing, even when empty!

I have a Tamrac backpack, only a small one, but I'd imagine the larger adventure series ones would have the space. I love Tamrac bags, and they seem much cheaper than Lowepro ones (or they were when I bought mine).

Kata 465i or 466i if you need a laptop compartment. The top compartment is for personal items, plus you can unzip the middle divider and use it as a normal rucksack. Used mine on holiday, very comfy plus it doesn't shout out you're carrying an expensive camera in it.

I have a Lowepro Fastpack 100 when I don't need as much space.

After going through a few bags ive finally settled on a Tamrac Adventure 9, theirs 2 smaller ones as well though, i had the Adventure 6 when i first started out and it was a great bag i just out grew it.

I much prefer the Tamracs to the Lowepros, they just seem to feel more substantial and a bit more discreet.

thanks lot's of idea there, i need to look more on the web.

Space for other stuff than the camera things being my main concern.

Thanks for your ideas

I came up with a shortlist by looking on the web. Found it really difficult to visualise the sizes of the overall bag and the compartment for non-camera things so made the final choice after physically looking at them & trying them out in various shops

I can second the Kata rucksack, the only thing I miss is a tripod holder, although the new versions have an accessory you can purchase for your tripod. Also has a laptop compartment

just bought a crumpler muffin top half photo backpack for £50 from walters photo and video as they are selling them off, other similar options on ebay. Good quality and loads of room for the stuff you want to carry with camera gear in the base section.

I have a muffin top satchel that I use as a lens / flash bag when out at events to save me lugging around rucksacks! Works very well! Means I can leave the heavy bags and tripods etc in the car and only go get it if I need to! :-)

Thanks for all your usefull advises.

I have a tiny lowepro already and wanted to try another brand. The Ramtac and Kata looks really good and I definitly go this way if I want to buy a hicking bag.

As I also wanted an everyday life and a bag which doesn't looks like having a nice camera, and not looking like a tourist. I bought a crumpler.
I didn't find the top half model for a reasonable price but found an almost similar easy weasy model for under 55 pound includind shipping.

I hope I made a good buy.
Thanks

Tom

Very good back pack which is great also for laptop is the case logic slr 206
It's on amazon 5 star

Take a look at the Hama Defender - it's big enough for a lot of gear, camera and lenses etc, and a laptop / book space.
