I have a FinePix 2600Z and I want to take pictures of circuit boards.

I have in mind a design for a contraption that holds the camera pointing downwards facing the objects (circuit boards, or whatever) to be photographed, and which allows object-camera distance adjustment.

To photograph an A4 sized object, when zoom is at minimum, the lens is about 40cm away from the object. I can either zoom in, or adjust the object-camera distance to suit.

The camera will fit on an A4 sized board with a hole in it. Of course, the camera lens is positioned over the hole, looking through it.

Now, my idea for lighting, is to pepper the underneath of the board holding the camera with (say) 5mm LEDs. In a grid pattern. But, obviously I cannot put them where the hole is in the board.

So, my lighting solution is A4 sized rectangle, with a grid of LEDs, surrounding the lens.

The camera allows EV adjustment from -1.5 to +1.5. There are 6 white balance settings.

I was thinking I need white LEDs with a colour temperature of about 5500K.

Not sure about brightness, or angle of illumination.

I imagine a diffuser in front of the LEDs.

Any ideas about what LEDs I might need?

Thanks.

you can set them up as a grid no problem, The strips can be cut to length and then spaced at any frequency you like, you just need to be fairly handy with a soldering iron, as the strips are a little fiddly.
I cant say exactly what colour temperature they are but mine are nice and white in white mode, they allow you to vary the brightness as well via the remote.
