Hi, I have been looking into buying a DSLR. Im a complete beginner but would love to be able to start off by taking pictures of my young children and then progressing into taking pictures of flowers, insects etc.

My head is a shed at the minute as there seems so much choice The Nikon D3100 seems to get good reviews but is a bit over my budget as looking at about £350.00. Been looking also at the Canon 1000D and Sony A290 or A390. I really just dont know which DSLR to purschase.

Also id be looking at purschasing further lens in the future, all the above come with a 18-55 lens but I guess id need further lens for portrait so was wondering also is there a great difference is the lens. From looking at teh internet Sony lens seem more expensive than Canon

ANy help would be appriciated

Hi, yes I know there is soo much choice it drives you mad trying to decide. I read loads of reviews then bought the D3100 back in January. Keep a look out for bargains just now as Nikon have just brought out another camera. So you may find D3100 on offer. I'm enjoying using mine and the" guide" section is very useful. Also if you are new to DSLR get yourself one of the books dedicated to D3100 they go into much more detail, with examples, than the manual that comes with the camera.
Happy shooting.

You could always look towards a 2nd hand camera. Jacobs sell them with 12 month warrenties too.
