I am looking to buy a wireless trigger/receiver for flash ( 3 flash set up); . But I know next to nothing on these things, since I have never done off-camera flash photography

Now, I use film SLR cameras, not digital ( Contax/Leica/bronica)( so neither have on-board flash). I have 3 external flashes for film cameras.

I was thinking of a way such that I can plug something onto the camera hot shoe; and plug another kit into the flashes; and when I set the camera to flash sync; the flash fires when I press the shutter.

Will the triggers and receiver that are usually available ( ebay etc) do the job?If not, what are the wireless alternatives?

Two followup questions :

1. can I use the same trigger/ receiver set up and the same flashes if I use a digital SLR? ( Nikon D 50)

2. Can I use the same trigger/receiver if I go ahead and buy a studio lighting kit at a later date?

Any suggestions, please

you can have one flash mounted with receiver and your camera mounted with trigger and then fit your other two (if they are not already built in) armed with slave triggers that cost less than a fiver on ebay and in most photographic retailers.

I'm not sure whether any of the HK triggers will work, it will depend on te trigger voltage of the flashes too

It would seem, from the response I got on the strobist discussions; that it will work on old flashes - at least some of them have worked.

One supplier has told me it will work with a PC sync; so I have to get a PC-hotshoe adapter for connecting the flash to the receiver.

I guess the only way to be certain would be to try it out.
