hi all, just got myself a 40d (upgrade from 350d) and just after a little advice, this may seem a daft Q's to some:amstupid: but are the picture style settings worth bothering with at all or should i just keep it in standard picture setting? i have got few a grad filters 17-85mm canon lens and a tripod, off to the lakes soon and not really had chance to play with it
look forward to all the answer's (however sarcastic they may be:thumbs:) thanks in advance for reply's

i prefer not to do anything in camera all those settings are available on DPP so you can apply any styles later

just my preference - I also shoot RAW + a small jpg to display on the back screen

Personally I don't normally mess with the picture styles on my cameras as all they do is make adjustments to the photo that I can do myself in PP and have great control over what I do in PP

If your shooting RAW it's rather pointless anyway as the RAW will not have those style settings anyway as it's unedited

I pretty much agree with matt - I occasionally use the custom picture style to apply a little warming sat if i'm shooting jpegs for fast work where i dont want to do much PP - but on raws (or indeed jpegs that you are going to edit later) its pretty much pointless
