Hi there. I hope you can help me out please.

I am looking to spend between £300 and £380 ish on a new digital camera and have literally been searching for hours. There are so many options but the specific requirements I want are:

1. Decent image quality of course!
2. Decent zoom I.e. 15x plus
3. Really important. Decent video 1080p with stereo sound and decent 50/60 (I'm told this is good but not sure what it means!)
4. Compact (I'm not after a large bridge camera or dslr)

I've already ruled out the new Samsung galaxy camera due to battery life.

Any suggestions and real life experience would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dan

You'll be hard pressed to get 15x and fulfil the rest of you requirements.

Compromise on the zoom length and grab a Nikon P7700, its still got a 28-200mm equivalent lens and very good image quality.
Hunt around an you should be able to get one + spare battery & case within your budget.

Ahh fab thank you for this!!

What are your views of the Sony DSC HX50? Quite expensive but looks decent (although I'm no pro so would be great to hear your thoughts!!)

Thanks again

As someone who generally likes Sony cameras, I was disappointed with the HX50. If you're going down the compact camera with big zoom and good video, I'd take a look at the Panasonic TZ40 over the HX50. Image quality on either wasn't great but for everyday point and shoot stuff, they're completely acceptable.

The TZ40 gives 50/60fps at 1080p, as well as 120fps at 720p, which is quite rare.

In favour of the HX50, it does give you the option of an electronic viewfinder/external microphone attachment and a general hotshoe on top.
