Hi there

New to the forum (though have been lurking for the past few days) and very new to photography!

I have a canon 450d with the 18-55 kit lens and have spent the last few weeks playing. I was out at the weekend and took the following shot in Fornells bay Menorca. I could not get it to look the way it was in real life. The pictures all came out dark but if i increased the exposure all i did was over expose the white water. If i tried to decrease the shutter speed then the white water was blurred. Any tips would be much appreciated!

FB, exif says shutter priority, 1/500 @ f/7.1 ISO 200

Thanks for the quick replys! What could i do with it in Photoshop to give it punch its lacking?

Maybe a bit OTT with sharpening, but you get the idea ...

I had a little play with it too.

yeah, it's amazing how todays software can change an image

Thats fantastic mac and strangways, what a difference. So obviously nex question is can i get away with buying something like photoshop elements or do i have to fork out for the cs4?

thanks again

Gordon

I'd have thought Elements would do fine. I use Paintshop Pro
myself.

I used to have CS4, but I found it to complicated for my needs.
I use the Canon DPP, Elements 7, Paintshop Pro and Dynamic-Photo HDR.
I tweaked that in DPP (sharpened, contrast and hue) then used Dynamic-Photo to finish it off.

You could always download gimp which is a free photo editor and does most of what elements does?

does your canon have anything like Nikon 'D-lighting' ?

If the balance doesn't seem to be right, it brings out the detail/highlights in the underexposed areas, whilst leaving the rest virtually untouched. :)

Oops - edited to say what a great capture ! :)

Well,good shot , and I'm sendng my P&P to strangways.Is it post paid ?:p:p

Thank you Rick, but I think it would be better if I sent you the software :D

It always takes a while to get used to a new program. I do find it a bit easier to find my way round Paint Shop Pro, but I have been using it longer. To be honest, unless you are using them regularly, it is so easy to forget.
