Advice please for zoom lens for Canon EOS350D

Hello

I'm a beginner having just been given a Canon EOS 350D to get me started.

I'd like advice on an inexpensive zoom lens - I'm looking at the Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 USM MK3 or the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro DG, neither of which I believe have image stabilization, or the Canon 55-250 which I believe does have IS.

Is it better to sacrifice some zoom length to get IS or not?

I'll be taking mostly daylight long distance shots of people and situations.

I'm not a Canon man but I believe the one to get is the 55-250 as it's the sharpest lens out of the lot and 50mm isn't that much extra length in this context, plus it has IS.
 
No contest! Get the 55-250mm IS, cracking lens, performs well above it's price and tends to keep value. :thumbs:
 
+1 for the 55-250is its a little belter and a much more balanced lens on the xxxD bodies.

I think the only other one worth considering before L series is the 70-300 IS USM but the 55-250 does have a good reputation
 
Hi there, i had the same discussion not too long ago.. considering all of the above and even the more expensive glass.

I decided on the 55-250, based on its very good IQ (consistently reported as good from multiple forums/review sites) and also its "3-4 stop" IS.. which at these longer focal lengths, certainly comes in usefull.

In terms of IQ, if you can live without the extra 50mm length, the 55-250 would be a good one.. 2nd hand you can squeeze for £115.. new you can pay anything from £140 up
