Does it really matter  ???

also do people really want to advertise what model they have for potential tea leafs ?

I don't think it really matters; but eventually we will all want to upgrade our stuff, and when we do so the lack of the original strap may knock down a few £ ..

Also, if it's supposed to be there as per the manufacturer's specification, then the shop have to supply it, no excuses to that.

More worryingly is why is the strap not original (it's yet to be confirmed that it isn't) Is the camera a return? Demo?

first thing I did when I ordered my 5D2 was to get a new strap which did not say please steal this from me lol

 spot on there.

It has crossed my mind, but the shop insists it's not a demo or return. I have used them many times before with no issues in the past. I have given it a good going over and I can’t find any issues – Yet!!!!

Is there a way i can find out how many actuations it has taken? The file sequence was on zero when I had it but I know this is easily reset.

I want a strap that says DOES IT MATTER?. I also want to fill in the sunken logo on the front of the camera and paint it on there. I am pretty sure that would invalidate my warranty though.

Even as a beginner, a couple of sessions out with my D90 got me thinking of replacing my stock strap.
- It was a little like wearing sandpaper
- The bright yellow was screaming out

Ended up with an Optech pro which is remarkably comfortable. It really does make my d90 feel a lot lighter, and no doubt would help more with a D700!

I does help a lot with the weight of the D700! My strap is in the box in the loft so can't easily check if it's model branded but since the part number seems to be model specific (AN-D700) I assume it is.

I use an Optech Pro loop and it is 100x more comfortable than the stock strap if you are walking around with the camera, either on your shoulder or around your neck, plus you can detach the main neoprene part and just have a small strap on it, useful for packing it in a back and saving space :D

Just received my R-Strap from the states today (no extra tax) and I must say I'm well chuffed.

+ Good Build Quality
+ Waist to Eye Motion Is Very Quick
+ Well Balanced

The only downside is the slightly predictable one that when you put the camera down you are resting it on the r-strap mount, which isn't a biggy.

Can't wait to try it on the next location shoot.

I need a couple of Nikon straps if anyone has a spare for a donation to TP. My Nikon FM and F80 are both strapless numbers which is nice on a little black cocktail dress but not ideal on a camera with an expensive lens on it :)

Actually thinking about it the Nikon ones would probably look better on those two beauts anyways...

The search button works like a charm.

I just got a D700 and don't want to fit the stock strap. The camera is superheavy with my 24-70 attached - walking around a show hall all day with it hanging off my neck would wipe me out!

Have ordered an Optech Pro from West Lancs Photographic on eBay. Thanks for sharing the tip.

I think the D700 FX straps look great, when the D700 first came out didn't have FX on them to start with

My D700 says so on the strap!

I agree that you need to make sure you have the correct strap for a possible future sale.

You may want to change it to something else but that is a different issue.

Me? All four of my cameras have the original straps and I like them as they are. As it happens I rarely put them round my neck and only use the strap to wrap lightly around my hand should I drop it. However, I must get the confidence to take them off totally! They get in the way on the tripod!

Me too - got a dark grey strap with no name.

I use the Lowepro Voyager with a card holder and of course a TP one

I have an Optech Pro too - very, very good. I also got one for my 300mm - makes it a lot easier to carry. The strap is easily removed from the camera (via two snap-in connectors) for when the camera is on a tripod and you don't want to get tangled in it...

I think I've only ever used the Nikon strap once (way back when I bought my D80) and it was replaced within a couple of weeks with an Optech -since discovering them I've replaced all my camera straps with the Pro, as Andy says it makes carrying heavy bodies and lenses much easier.

Call me paranoid but i would also be more concerned about the above, from a personal point of view i found my D300 strap much better than my D700, hence i changed my D700 to an Optech pro straight away, which i find very comfortable ;)

I don't know how a strap can be 'inviting' for thieves. Chances are, if they see the strap, they see the camera. And I'm pretty sure the camera is more steal-worthy than the strap.
If a thief knows how much a D700 is worth (or what a D700 is) then they're going to know how it looks like most likely irregardless of what strap you're wearing.
