Hope some of the enthusiastic birders can help with this.
I seem to be getting nowhere trying to email the RSPB via their website (which carries advice that only a selection of emails will be answered).

I need an email contact (too big a report to give via telephone) to report a large local loss of raptor population over the last year.
I have been able to establish that this loss is confined to an estate that is organised around pheasant shooting. You can probably guess where my suspicions lie, but I need to get the information to people, such as the RSPB, who may be prepared to investigate and/or monitor the situation.

Anyone one of you good folks have an RSPB email address where I can submit my information.

I don't want to put any information on this website that identifies the estate involved since although I have good grounds for suspicion I do not actually have proof.

Maybe worth contacting the RSPCA in the first instance, you will no doubt have local officers on the ground that can escalate the complaint ? To be honest I would imagine the police would also be interested especially if rare breeds are involved.

You seem to be starting a rumour whilst saying that you're not actually starting a rumour so why don't you simply inform your local police and let them get on with it?

But please, which species of raptor do you think are involved, what kind of numbers are you talking about and over what period do you suspect the decline in numbers? You don't think, for example, that it might be a poor hatch due to the cold wet spring we've had? I know of a pair of hen harriers near me - one pair mind - and it would only take one bird to die of old age for the population to be reduced by 50%.

I have PM'd you details of the local (Central) police wildlife crime prevention officers as well as the contact details of the rspb around you. As said if you need anything else let me know.

Arron

Good intentioned you may be, but I think you have given too much information already in the public domain, you have no idea who might be reading this, for instance a shooter who is also interested in photography who happens to shoot on the estate you are hinting at:shrug:

If they are guilty of anything, this public information if read by those involved or profiting from the possible persecution, may give them the advantage if there is an investigation.

You have to be very careful what you say in forums!!

As Arron says, Police Wildlife Protection Officer. Every force has one and the accusations are of a criminal offence so let the police deal with it.

Some WLO are bloody useless, that is a fact based on experience.

If you go for it,make sure you have SOLID evidence and be prepared for serious hassle, again, based on experience.

Major species involved is buzzards. 6 nesting pairs down to 2 nesting pairs.
Sparrowhawks and kestrels almost eliminated despite an abundant food supply.
Hen Harriers gone, but there only was one pair so that could happen anytime.

A TP member has sent me a PM with usefull info.

I realised the risk of puting this in a public forum but the normal channels which many of you have kindly suggested have problems.

Cheers mate - you understand some of the problems.
I have no direct evidence of crime, but I and many others here know that the raptor numbers have taken a sudden dive and we would like to know why.

In principle, Mal, you are 100% correct.
However the situation has already been reached where the initiative has been lost.
Plenty local walkers have openly voiced opinions.

Best of luck........
