Today whilst out i misjudged the distance to the floor and the length of my camera strap when sitting down. Yes a basic error, but my capped and cased 18-200VR took a knock on a carpetted hard floor. This has broken the hood (no big deal) but now the lens seems very noisy focussing - particularly at the 18mm end - and (perhaps psychogically) somewhat slower to focus.
The lens is about 6 weeks old and was bought from WHE. Do i contact them regarding repair or go to Nikon? Any ideas on how much of an expensive mistake this will be?

Many thanks for advice.

Garry

Speak to Nikon, or to an authorised Nikon service centre - they're listed on the Nikon web site here.

I have no idea what it will cost to repair. If you've broken something internally, it might not be cheap. Trouble is, the service centre probably won't be able to tell what's wrong until they've stripped it down.

Look on the bright side though. I just received a repair estimate from Canon that had 4 digits between the pound sign and the decimal point. Yours won't be that bad!

Many thanks for that, will contact them and keep my fingers crossed regarding cost!

Check with your home insurance policy. You never know.
