Hello, I'm quite into the whole photography thing now and tomorrow around 1PM I'm travelling down to watch my mother abseil and I'm wondering is there any tips on how to get some cracking shots? (e.g any particular angles i should try and shoot from, etc.) I had a quick search on the forum and i couldn't find anything, so i thought i would ask.. :)

Thanks, Josh

The best place is from the top looking down on her just after the start, make sure to get the safety people to fit you with a harness and attach you to something secure just in case first though. A wide angle lens will make it look higher. Wayne

The best vantage point is you on another rope a few meters to her left or right....

BTW, and FYI: it is "abseilen" (German for 'down-roping'), not "absailing". It's got nothing to do with sailing.

Josh, take a look at my business website www.totalaccess.co.uk (in the contracting section) admitedly we conduct Rope Access (Abseiling) as a major part of our business but you will get an idea of the kind of images that you can achieve.

Personally I always like the image looking down from the access point, for a charity abseil always great to get the person looking up smiling as they very often want them as momento's of the event.

As has previously been pointed out however, ENSURE that you are provided with a harness ad lanyard and are attached to a reliable anchor point (the organisers should be able to sort this for you) If not avaiable do NOT risk taking these shots and revert to the from the ground shots with zoom lens.

Happy Snapping....

Richard
