Hi guys, ive signed up for some advice really and hoping to stick around.

I had a Nikon D60 in college and it served me well, and i have recently sold it on and looking for something with more features etc. My question is, as i was looking at the D7000 would you recommend it? I was also looking at the D700 but im not sure if its worth the extra.

If it helps, im looking to do a fair bit of nightlife(clubs etc) & skating photography. What i like about the d7000 is the ability to record also.

Or maybe you guys could recommend a canon alternative?

thanks

Rob.

D7000 is excellent for low light, but then so is the D700. What lenses do you have? The D7000 has a cropped sensor and the D700 is full frame, so lens compatibility is a big issue.

I'd definitely go for the D700 if you can afford the extra, but the D7000 is pretty much as good as consumer cams get so worth considering if you like DX format (eg you might have DX lenses)

at the moment i have my D60 with the 18-55 DX format it comes with and a 70-300 Sigma DG lens. The 18-55 is being sold with the D60, and the sigma i got for free. So im not too fussed about lens compatability really. I just see there is a lack of DX format lenses?

it's all down to your choice of lenses - D7000 is the best DX Nikon camera. D700 will give you a better viewfinder but full frame lenses are not cheap and many are on the bulky side.

oh decisions!! I think i might opt for the D7000, DX format ftl though.

Most primes are full frame and not always that expensive. Even the D7000 deserves better glass than a DX consumer zoom.

What's your budget? Seems crazy to me to buy the D700 if you can't afford to get any lenses afterwards (or event he D7000 for that matter - I'd rather get a secondhand D90 and spend a grand on glass).

What things are you planning on photographing?

Nightclub shots and Skating mainly. I was all out to get the D7000 but i would like a variety of wide angle lenses. But i cant see many in DX.

oh and budget wise, well i dont really have one. If the case is the D700 is better, then ill just wait till net month to get it.

I'd say anywhere like a club then a fast prime is pretty much mandatory. I would not want to be restricted to a 2.8 zoom somewhere so dark!
Obviously the D3s is the ultimate club camera with that superb high iso, but the D700 must come a pretty close second.

Feel free to send me both lenses if you got the 70-300 free Rob :P
