Advice on trigger for off-camera flash

I have a Nikon D90 and SB600 Speedlight. What trigger do I need to fire the flash off camera? I don't want to use the pop-up flash to fire it in commander mode. Thanks for any advice.
 
Manual it iTTL?

Manual Yongnuo RF602 or 603

iTTL Yongnuo YN622N
 
I can recommend the Yongnuo YN622.

I have three of these, and use them to fire two 430EX ll Speedlites off camera.

Not expensive, and work very well indeed.

Thanks for your advice Phil and Dave. Will it work with a D90? Any idea what changes to flash settings in camera I need to make when using one of these?
 
Sorry not a Nikon user. But I'd guess so!

It'll work. But as to changes/settings to use, the manual if you get them will be the best source
 
I used the YN603n they were good and reliable. but limiting in the sense of not having any control.
I have a the YN622N and with the tx now much more control. and cheap too. it can be added too and is iTTL.
It really does depend on what you want to take pictures of.

And if you use ttl flashes you'll be able to alter the manual settings remotely. With the price of the 622s I see no point in manual triggers, except maybe for spare.
 
I just thought if you're new to OCF then it helps keep the cost down whilst you learn the ropes and figure out if it's for you or not. But i guess given the 622's aren't exactly pricey there's not a great deal in it I guess.

OK thanks for your advice. I would like it for general stuff, portraits, still lifes, table top shots, that sort of thing. Would they be OK for that sort of thing or are they for more specialised use?

That's great because I shoot in manual most of the time anyway. Just need to learn about shooting flash in manual too. Must admit that I have stayed away from flash in the past but am beginning to see that it has its uses...so would like to explore it a bit more.

Cheers for that. Money is always a concern in these things.
 
My advice would be to get the yn622, and rx trigger. then get hold of a 565ex as a second light. it is a better investment in the long run.
