Advice on sunsets

Hi All,

Sunsets isn't something I have had much experience with but on a recently holiday, I managed to grab a couple. Now I am trying to do a bit of pp on them but not sure what people really try to do with them. I have got the following which except for slightly straightening (I was on a boat so pleased how close it was anyway :) ) and a small crop, I haven't really done anything else. Then I have the same picture but edited a bit. I guess I am after some advice on what people generally go for when editing sunsets? Should I be looking to make the detail in the cliffs stand out a bit more (started to in the edit) or should that really be left more silhouette-y? Does trying to bring some of that detail out take away the detail in the sky/sunset too much? Are my skills just lacking too much to be able to get the best out of it??

I think it's personal preference on how you'd like it to look. In a program like Lightroom, you can use local adjustments (brushes/gradients) to show more details in the shadows or add more contrast in the sky without affecting the other areas.
 
Looks underexposed to me! Is it a raw image?
 
@Bebop, thought that might be the case (personal preference). thanks :)

@Mark, the first one is, the second one is slightly edited, but not a lot. Haven't really started looking/playing with the sunset ones yet. Wasn't sure what way to go.
 
Send it to me ? I'd lift the shadows if poss and try and define the sky without it blowing out
