Advice on studio home kit needed

Hi Guys,

I have a spare bedroom which measures 10 feet x 12 feet with an 8 foot ceiling it could be a bit bigger if i remove the built in wardrobes and i was wondering if i could have some suggestions for lights and backdrops please. I have read numerous times that i would need 3 lights but i am not sure about the strength of the lights or the size, make etc. Could someone give me an idea of a kit that would suit a beginner like me but something i could use for a while as i was became a bit better. If you could recommend something at around the £500-£700 mark that would be great.

3 lights?
Not necessarily, depends on what you want to do as well as on the amount of space available.
You pretty much WILL want 3 lights (or more) if you want to produce dazzling white backgrounds - but there is far more to photography than white backgrounds, or to any particular style, and small spaces are far from ideal for white backgrounds.

Bearing in mind that studio photography consists basically of bringing the outdoors indoors but without the wind, rain and cold, the first step should always be to create a light that looks natural. This means using just ONE light, because there is only one sun outdoors, and then using reflectors or other lights to create effects or to mitigate shadows from the main light.

When choosing lighting, it's a very good idea to go with a brand that is well established and which takes either Elinchrom or Bowens accessories, because it's the accessories that become important as your skills increase. The Lencarta ElitePro kits take Bowens fit accessories.
