Hi ALL

I'm designing my first album in page gallery and wasn't sure if i needed to change the resolution to 250-300 before i import them to page gallery?

Taken on a Canon 40D the images are at 72 at present?

Thanks

The numbers you're talking about are PPI (pixels per inch) and changing them in the image doesn't do anything.

But you do need to think about the image size. A general rule of thumb for small-ish prints is that you need 250-300 PPI for the pictures to look sharp. So if you want to print at, say 6"x4", then your image needs to be at least 1500x1000 pixels (1.5 megapixels), and preferably 1800x1200 pixels (2.2 MP). As long as the image is big enough in terms of pixels, it doesn't matter what the PPI setting within the image file actually is.

Make sense?

No point changing the resolution away from 72ppi for interweb use. Higher resolutions like 300ppi are better for printing.

kinda makes sense

this will be for priting on a 10 * 13 inc book so fairly large

when it produces the page, page gallery does import the final pdf in 250 but if the images are in 72 does it make a difference to the final pdf?

As previously stated ignore the dpi. All Photoshop and other applications are doing in the image size dialogue box is indicating the size of the image,IF it were printed at 72dpi. It's only a guide, the file is not changed in anyway. It's the file size you need to be concerned about. 10 x 13 from a 40D should be fine for the size you want.

If it's like other applications I've used, the application that produces the pdf for printing will automatically take your image, size it for the page, and output at 250 dpi for final printing, all painlessly ( hopefully) .
