Advice on Photography Courses

I have been a keen Photographer for many years. I did a basic Photography course about 2 years ago but now want to look at doing it professionally. I have looked at several colleges and have found a great place in London to do some courses. I own a few cameras, digital and SLR and am looking at buying the Canon 450d after recommendation from Photography advisor in London. I have also been advised that Digital Photography course is best choice for my first course (?). To be honest i am a bit lost, so much to take in. Could anyone advise me further on courses, cameras, etc.:)

I did it last year. Yes it is T189. It's a good course especially if you do all the weekly assignments. You don't have to there are only two essential elements, a multiple choice paper (electronic) and a panel of images with accompanying text to explain the thinking behind the images and the techniques used in their creation. That's the final submission. You get video tutorials to watch each week that take you through the techniques you are using and course notes with examples to read. I printed all mine off so I now have a folder with all the notes and images.

You also get a copy of Elements to work with.
And a student discount for the full photoshop!

Have a look at the OU for a prospectus. It's 12 weeks long.
 
Do they do something a bit more advanced than that? I've just finished a 10 week course at my local college and wasn't that impressed with it so would much rather do something like OU...

May I suggest that you decide what type of photography you want to pursue, and then try to match that to courses that are available.

You also need to match them to your own level of competence. You don't want a course that covers the areas you are already proficient in , but then you don't want one that is to advanced.

Do you want to do these courses full time, part time, or in your own time as with the OU course. You also need to consider what level of qualification or training you'll need for the career you want to follow.
 
What do the 'OU in your own time' courses consists of, i'm guessing their home-learning?
 
Any info on them, links etc?

Just had a gander, looks like I've missed the May 2008 registration by a few weeks :(

Next one is October 2008.
 
Did the OU course T189 at the end of last year - OK but I would have got more out of it I think if it had had tutor feedback. Enjoyed it though and it did make me focus on a work pattern instead of wandering off on other things!!
