Advice on first SLR

Hello;

Just after a little advice I posted a while back about moving from my Fuji S6500 fd bridge to an SLR and after reading all of the posts, and thank you for them all. I have decided to get a D-SLR now I am looking at around a £500 budget will go slightly over. I like the Canons (all I have used tbh) and have seen this bundle

Tempted to get this as for a starters pack I think it looks quite good any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself into the shop and try it out.

That is my humble advice for what it's worth.

I'd be temped to go for the 450D and 18-55 IS lens for around £380 including cash back. Then look to getting the Canon 55-250 IS lens for around £180 read good reviews bout the Canon zoom but mixed for the Tamron. Whichever enjoy.

i went in to the shop and had a look at the 450d and the d60 both seem very nice and vergy good the D60 is £100 less for the same kit. is there a lot of difference between them for a starter camera what would you recomend?

In terms of IQ very little, the 450D as a 3" LCD with live view and I think its shoots at a faster FPS.

Which one handled the better and which had the easiest menus to navigate. :thumbs:
 
Personally I would go for the Canon, purely because of the restriction of lenses that will autofocus on the D60 - I had one and it was one of the reasons I recently upgraded to a D80 (which can be had for £400 ish)....
 
I'll second the advice to get yourself down to a camera shop and try them out, it's the best way once you have exhausted all the reviews and forums on the net! I started off on a Fuji s6500 till it got stolen and then i upgraded to a Canon 450d, and i've never regretted the choice. Im not sure what the Tamron 70-300 is like, so read up on a few reviews and see if it is appropriate for the type of stuff you want to photograph.

[As a side note, i didn't really miss having the zoom capability of the s6500 when i moved to the 450d, in case that's what you were worried about. The quality of even the kit lens is so much better and you just have to get a bit more creative with your footwork.]
