Advice on extension tubes!

Hi everyone, here's my first post.

I'm really making a go of getting to know my equipment, but it's becoming apparent that my Tamron 100-300mm lens is not enough for what I want to do,
I cannot afford a longer lens so I've been looking at extension tubes.
On the canon website they're looking at around £150, which is about what I expected. However, I had a look on amazon and there are some for as low as £39.99 (some cost a little more) with five-star reviews.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with either type?

Are you confusing tele converters ( TC / TX ) with extension tubes? for the reach you need TC's extension tubes are normally used for macro ( getting closer)

Although I wouldn't mind a crack at macro photography haha - my tamron lens has a macro switch slider

30 quid is about right for decent extension tubes
150 is about right for a Kenko TC, ( either 1.4x or 2x ) that's why I asked the question
But do your homework first to make sure the one you buy will fit your camera and lens combination.
Generally there is no issues, but occasionally there are a few anomalies.
for example If you go 2x you will most likely have to focus manually.

The Canon ones are highly rated but don't have as wide a compatibility with lenses (especially third party ones)

I've personally used Kenko Pro-300 ones in the past and the 1.4x at least is good enough to keep a spot in my bag.

I was out the other day and getting to grips with my manual focus - I found it good!

They have a good reputation that's for sure
( never owned one myself though )

Check compatibility of a teleconverter with your chosen lens first - not all lenses will fit a teleconverter. Its probable that you will lose autofocus and there will be a reduction to IQ.
