Hey All

I seem to be very fortunate at the moment, and my introduction to photography seems to be going better than I expected and I find myself very lucky to have had some fairly decent pics of my puppies seen by the right people.

I have been asked if I would be able to do some pet photography and could I produce a flyer/poster to advertise my services etc. So, I have a few questions I'd like to run past you pro's if I may.

I am not going to advertise myself as a professional photographer, as I am not one and don't count myself as one, however - I am wondering about charges and the structure of charging.

Do I;
  1. charge a set fee/amount per say 1 or 2 hour session, taking as many images as it takes, then charge additionally on a per print/item basis.
  2. charge a set fee/amount per 1 or 2 hours (a little more than [1]) with variants of say 3 packages which would go up in price, but would include prints. Say
    1. option 1: includes x prints
    2. option 2: includes x,y prints
    3. option 3: includes x,y,z prints
  3. sell the copyright to the images and arrange for file transfer and copyright transfer of all images taken
  4. Other structure or pricing plan
Finally, what do you good folk feel the fixed fee or hourly rate should be for an amateur such as me...?

Looking for some good advice here as I am delighted to have been approached to do this and want to do as good a job as I can in (1) taking the images and delivering to the clients, and (2) marketing and promoting myself.

Ta all...

I gave up trying to do packages as I was always being asked if I could swap this for that, etc. Now I just do a single package of £120 which includes a £50 print voucher so the client can choose what they want. The advantage is that I sell at least £50 worth of prints on every job and usually another £40-50 on top as well, my print prices aren't too high but the profit margin is pretty nice.

John - I have some pretty strong and different views on this to most pros locally to me - if (when!) we meet re you-know-what, I'll let you know them

Meanwhile - I was asked if I do puppies yesterday (photograph them I mean!), the enquirer wanted a 32"x32" canvas mounted print. Following our conversation, she now wants 2. One would have been profitable, sort of, 2's doubled the profit for no more work and hence is worth doing; and, guess what, her mate has a puppy too

Meaning - my work is going to the dogs :lol::lol::lol:

Just as a thought... what would you charge for a 32"x32" canvas mount? Anyone? It's relevant to MusicMan's query too
