Advice on baby photos

Thanks alot for the advice...well yeah one with ISO 400-was on auto! I was trying out AV mode, and didnt seem to get anywhere. Thanks for the B&W tip.

Your 50mm 1.8 should be fine - looking at the exif on the your earlier shots, the two blurry ones are shot using iso 200 and a very slow shutter speed, which is why they are blurry. The one that you are happy with is shot using iso 400 and a faster shutter speed, so put the iso up to 400 and get a shutter speed of 1/60 or more and you'll be fine :)
Try converting some of the shots to black and white as well, some baby shots look great in black and white.

So if I use a speed of around 1/100 ISO400 what aperture would you suggest?

most shots of people at close range depend on eyes or eye sharpness and blurred background
use an open aperture and you will get the benefit of speed...along with image stabilisation you should be successful

hope this all helps

Jimmy, your earlier shots were at 1/4 shutter speed. If that's hand held it's really slow. In the studio I try and shoot 1/125th f8 as a general rule but then I've got multiple flash heads I can turn up to suit.

Aperture depends on what depth of field you want (providing you've got enough light). On the 50mm 1.4, it's possible to get the eyes in focus and the nose/ears out of focus.

Anyone got a posing guide for babies? I've got a 5 month old to shoot sometime soon.
