Basically ive bought my g/f a drive a ferrari experience and she is going with her mum , dad and me next weekend. i will be taking my camera to capture the event as both her and her dad will be driving and it should be quiet a memorable birthday present for both of them. Any suggestions or advice as to what type of shots to take etc

Thanks :)

Much will depend on whch track, as some you can't get close, others you can.

You would hav to say that 3/4 frontal shot would be best to see the driver, although only you would know who was under the helmet LOL.

You'll want a fairly wide, fairly fast lens for those pit-lane shots of them getting in and out of the car and posing next to it. While the car is on the track you'll want something longer. How long depends on just how far from the track you're allowed to watch. When my friend took his TVR to Goodwood we could get close enough so that the wide end of my 70-200 lens was enough for some decent shots -

One thing you may want to practise beforehand is panning. To get a shot where the car looks like it's moving, rather than parked, you need a fairly slow shutter speed and some good panning technique. It took me a while before I got the hang of it the first time (and still takes a while to get back into the swing each time).

If you have time, try to check out possible locations before they get in the car - while they're doing all the admin/safety stuff is a good opportunity. A spot where cars are coming through a corner, or chicane is good as they'll be moving slower, so it's easier to get a sharp shot. For the speedy shots I like to be down-track from a corner, where the cars are accelerating.

Also, a circular polariser may come in handy to reduce glass reflections and allow you a better chance of getting a shot where you can see the driver.

It's a fast, mid range zoom. i.e. neither particularly wide or long.

ok thanks for the replys guys , am looking at changing my camera from my fujifine pix 6500 to a true dslr as i think the fixed lens on the fuji will limit me eventually , id rather be able to buy lenses according to what i mainy photograph than have to try and make do with the "jack of all trades" lens on the fuji. Am currently looking at either a nikon D80 or D5000 or the canon equivilants say the Eos 450D. Have a budget of about £500-£650.

Main interests are motorsport and landscapes so what do you reccomend , im hopefully going to have it by this weekend for my girfriends driving thing.
