I am currently using a Portaflash system with a sync cable but the tangle fairies are starting to annoy me. Can anyone suggest a decent trigger that will work with Portaflash but will not require me to remortgage my house?

Cheers

Pocket Wizard - beause they just work!

Yes PWs work but they are WAY too expensive. You have a few other choices.

I use Elinchrom Skyports which are less than half the price of PWs (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy...inchrom-Skyport-Universal-Trigger-Set_1017667)

You could look at the Interfit ones at £30 (http://www.studiokitdirect.co.uk/Catalogue/Studio_Lighting/Interfit_Strobies/INT492.htm)

Or there are ebay ones for less than £20!

I used ebay ones for about 2 years before they started to misfire a lot - skyports are very nice.

Sorry Flash I forgot about yours :)

Yes they make a good starting wireless trigger.

Doesn't the portaflash have a non-standard fitting - 3.5mm audio socket by either longer or shorter than normal?

I use the RF-602 triggers for all sorts of things - firing studio flash, hot-shoe guns, or remote triggering of the camera. All you need is the right lead. They come with a 1/4in jack to 3.5mm adapter but I don't know about short or long fitting for Portaflash.

Presumably you are using the sync lead to fire one head which is then triggering the others by optical slave. A radio trigger will work in just the same way and you can also integrate hot-shoe guns into the set up by adding an extra receiver unit to each flash (assuming they don't have an optical slave built in, which many do not).
