Hi, have been ask if i can do a whole school shoot, 450 pupils and 70 teachers, never done a group this big.

I would image the options are for either a large staging to be built or smaller groups and build in photoshop.

Any thoughts?

thanks

:agree:

My kids whole school photo was done in two halves, i.e. left and right

Thanks for replies and links, staging is what i was thinking. Will have see what school budget is.

Staging is quite a traditional look imo. How about deploying a drone and get creative with a different look?

I loved the results at a large wedding I was at recently in the Lake district.

A wide staircase is a ready built staging. A narrow staircase can give you elevation over the group on the ground. If you avoid straight architectural lines in the shot you can shoot a big group in a confined space with a fisheye lens if you arrange the group rows in a curve radially equidistant around the camera. That wa.y you can get a wide angle shot without people at the image edges looking fatter due to wide angle distortion. With radial equidistance they're all the same size and naturally proportioned.

An update to this, last year they had the photo done with staging at the local park as there is not enough room at the school and seems that is what they are looking to do this year.

Ok now the tricky part, aside from staging any suggestions for a competitive price for this job?

The actually photography should not take to long, but the organizing will and having not done such a shoot not sure how time this will take up.

thanks

Not without obtaining a Permission For Aerial Work from the CAA first (assuming this is a commercial undertaking).

That speaks for itself, just like with other activities all legal and regulatory requirements needs to be in place. I'm sure you can't just put up a big stage in a park either? Nor drive the vehicles on it to erect the structure etc....

Now if only we knew somewhere on here who knows about drones for commercial work :)

how about getting them in a big group looking up and shooting it from a window or the roof of a portacabin - works for big weddding groups albeit not usually quite that big

Hi, i contacted myeventphoto concerning staging, but they are unable to provide staging for such a large group. Some other companies i contacted have also been unable to help.

Any know of a company that could deal with the numbers required?

thanks

any local sports areans near by that may be able to help or hire out. sports hall or a low end football league stadium. i know in my old town of harlow they had a grandstand and it was availble for hire for such things. maybe theres something similar in the area. track and field arena or any other venue where theres fixed seating already in place. may actually be cheaper to hire for a few hours than having to get a staging hired and erected, plus if its in local park would you need some kind of licence/ planning from local council to do the shoot there as well which could be more cost?
