I've been an idiot and taken a studio photoshoot with ISO 800. Completely forgot to set it back to 100 as that's where I usually always leave it. :bang:

Any advice on the best way to fix some rather grainy images? I've got LR3 with noise reduction, but I know it's a fine line between fixing the noise and loosing the detail. (Have CS4 too).

What makes it even worse is that they were pics for a fellow tog. Cringe!

Any advice appreciated, will post an image later as I'm not at home at the mo, just having a panic!

Thanks

Lightroom 3's noise reduction software is very good. Now depending on what camera you have it should do a reasonable job on an ISO 800 image. Maybe not as good as getting it back to ISO 100 but probably not bad. As far as sharpening is concerned I'd try and keep it to a minimum,

Ok thanks, I'll have a play and see what I can do. Hadn't thought about the sharpening so that makes sense. Most of the photos will be b&w, so hopefully I can get away with a certain amount of grain. So frustrated with myself though!
Think I'm going to have to make a physical checklist that I can discretely work through in the future!

Hi Elli.

I've done similar at weddings when leaving the Church. :bang:

I've never used it, but there's also a tool called noiseninja (I think). Not sure these days if its as good as LS3.

I find LR3 noise reduction very good.

Thanks for your replies, I did find LR3 pretty good, in the end I did what I thought looked right, then pulled it back a bit. (Posted a few from that session here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=279041)

Think I'm going to have to be a bit sad and make myself a quick check list before I start shooting. How professional is that gonna make me look! :suspect:

FWIW Nik's Dfine 2.0 noise reduction software allows you to selectively reduce noise in areas you only want it to be applied to, allowing other parts of the image to remain detailed where nr isn't required.
