i am draw to the evening length for the reason above and the fact i have a wardrobe full of them but not one cocktail but worried i'll be the only one...
Try to find pictures of last years event (if it's not a one off) and see what everyone else has worn? I did that to go to a ladies masonic do and ended up in a ballgown...full on!
I personally think black tie do's are a scarce opportunity to wear something really flouncy! I'd go all out and get something full length and work the room lady!!
Oh and post pics after...;-) You'll look fabulous!
It is an anual event this is the only time we will be going.
Ok th event is my sons schools summer ball black tie full on umpteen course dinner ect and parents are attending as they always do. (this is not a prom lol).
I have lots of evening/ball gowns but i think i am going to have to take a trip over to the school and if they have any pic's on the walls none on the website.
and there was me thinking i was done with all this dress stuff. well hopefully this is the last one.
i may phone them tomorrow and speak to the matron she will know more than a male housemaster i hope.
As it's a school function I would personally go for a a long evening gown. I am sure you will not be the only woman there in a long dress but there is a chance you might be the only one in a short dress. In saying that knee length would be absolutely fine, anyone passing judgement would prob only be jealous of your legs. Go with whatever you feel comfiest in. Sorry re-read that and I'm no help at all :bonk:
I was at formal ball last night.... cocktail dresses and long dresses were both the norm and equally acceptable...there wasnt anyone wearing anything particularly short...mid thigh was about the shortest...I wore knee lenght and there were some lovely dresses in 3/4 length and full length...doesnt seem to be a "standard"
My advice, wear whatever makes you feel the most fab and sexy
