Hi all sorry to bother you but as i have only just got a DSLR a nikon D50 second user.
It looks like a last minute trip this weekend from doncaster too cardif to see the doctor who exibition.
I would love to get some nice shots as we are all fans hence the trip and as its such a long trip i could do with as many keeper shots as possible.
The D50 only has the 2 kit lenses the 17-50 i think and 55-200.
Only the built in flash 4 batterys and 4 sandisk extreme 2 gig cards.
Help please or i may be exterminated as an enemy of the darleks!!!!!!!
All the best,
james

Firstly check you are allowed to take photos

so much depends on the lighting at the exhibiion - many places are lit poorly for photography. So I'd use 17-50 and either high iso, wide aperture and no flash or just a tiny bit of fill in flash. I'd also shoot in RAW if possible.

if its your first trip out with the camera and your not sure - i would first shoot in raw and secondly make use of the auto and program settings, if you really want the pics it would be a shame to miss them cos ur not familure with the camera

Thanks for posting this!

I didnt realise there was one, I hope you will be posting the results! :D I am nowing planning a visit myself :D

Thanks all for your input,
Yes you can take pictures and use a tripod but pics are for personal use only, not a problem.
However they cannot be posted on the web, Bum.
Since i had not had time to play with the camera i ended up using auto modes.
Did shoot in raw + small jpeg as this is an option on the nikon.
We got there early on the sunday so was fine with the tripod.
I feared it would be a very small exhibit and was correct.
Hwever since most of torchwood and dr who is fimed around cardif it was not too much of a disapointment.
Im sad the dapol Dr who collection shut down as i had been there twice before with all the family and that was fantastic really large with daleks you could sit in and alter your voice, also dalek down a mirrored corridor that you could man handle and shove around as much as you wanted.
Loads of monsters well prity much all since the series was long over. They were all the originals including davros and heavy weapon dalek etc etc morbius sontarons the works.
Oh well.
Kids still enjoyed it.
Lots of familiar scenes around cardif from the shows.

My good lady wants to return when weather nicer.
All the best,
james
