Advice for first softbox

This is what I'd recommend, cheap, well made, easy to put up and gives you an accessory mount that will help you get other modifiers that'll still be useful once you move up to studio lights

In don't think this has been covered in this thread but apologies if it has. What's a good/similar standard umbrella that would work well in tandem with the softbox you recommended? My plan (as currently crafted but always evolving)is to start out with 2 Yongnuo 560 III's and a Youngnuo 565. I'll go with one of the softboxs you recommended (the bigger one I think) and an umbrella of some sort. Is that a good plan? I realise this leaves me with one light without a diffuser. What's your view on dealing with that? Thanks as always.

Probably already answered in the other thread, but I'd advise you to not play with a 3 light kit to start with. Have a look at the strobist blog, Google 'one light' portraits, there's plenty you can do.

The problem with starting with 3 lights ought to be obvious: when you take a phot you don't like, how do you know what to change? You could go through 1000 combinations of wrong before you hit on something you like, my guess is you'll give in before you get there.

Learn how light works by using one, feel free to buy a softbox, brolly, reflector, beauty dish. Once you've got the hang of that, adding further lights is a breeze. If you don't nail the single light, you'll get nowhere adding more.

Think of brollies and reflectors as being consumables, only spend a lot on them if you really like 'things' to look after. IMO a selection of cheap brollies is more useful than one quality one.

Phil, you mentioned a couple of pages back that you were going to have a look for a suitable grid. Any luck, keen to get one but haven't been able to locate yet.

Thanks
I think it'll need to be a large grid cut down, I'm looking at options ATM, I might pick something up at The Photography Show.

Can you recommend a good sturdy stand for this and does the speedlite bracket allow for tilting?

The only stand I have that I'd recommend is a Lencarta one.

Yes it tilts.

Glad this popped up, was just about to post and ask about a softbox for a speedlight! Have 2 x YN568's and a brolly but been tempted to add a softbox to it to have a play around with.
