I'm a beginner in photography and I'm looking for a mid range flashgun for my Canon EOS 1200D. I have never bought a flash gun before so I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone help?

I was hoping to keep the price under £100, would that be a realistic price for a mid range flashgun?

Hi

Are you going to be using it on the the camera or off camera, do you need ittl?

Thanks

Hi Sep9001,

It will mainly be used for on camera

Hi

This one is not bad to start off with

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yongnuo-YN-568EX-II-Master-Speedlite/dp/B00ENFF896

If you don't need has

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...236_SY340_QL65&keywords=canon+flash+speedlite

Both good flashes. I had the yn565 for my Nikon and was happy with it. The only think I did not like is the screw bit to attach to the camera.

I have since bought a Shanny flash and am happy with it. Not sure if they do a Canon version.

If you want to spend less the there is also the neweer ones but not sure on the build quality.

Agree with Byker MPB have a couple of used 430's within your price range

Yongnuo 568, very capable, popular and proven - and well under your budget https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yongnuo-YN...F8&qid=1467511742&sr=8-1&keywords=yongnuo+568

Or Yongnuo 685 or 600EX-RT if you want radio remote control of multiple units at a later date - basically they're all the same gun underneath. Very little more money, more bulky though.

Welcome to TP :)

Just to add, the 568 has light-code remote triggering built in, and that is usually fine indoors at close distances, but can be converted to radio remote triggering by attaching a 622 transceiver. Radio is very reliable, especially outdoors at any distance and doesn't need line of sight so can be used inside a softbox, or hidden away behind furnishings

Thank you for all your advice everyone, I will have a look at each option you have suggested :)
