OK, so I've been asked to cover a fightcard at the end of the month.

I've got plenty of sports experience, but boxing is not one of the sports I've ever covered.

I'm sure I'll be fine with it...shots were acceptable from my first basketball game, my first ice hockey game, my first american football game...but these are going to be for my employers, so they need to be "big 5 agency" quality.

You can see my equipment listed on my profile, but I'm after a bit of friendly, free advice from anyone who's shot boxing before...

:help:

Buy or hire a 24-70L, shoot everything in RAW, and bring 32 gigs worth of cards with you. I personally don't do any of those things (though many of the "big time" photographers do), but if this is your one shot to get it right, you're going to need all the latitude you can get.

Also, get there early- at least 1 hour before the doors open to the public. You're going to want to claim your spot as soon as possible, otherwise you risk shooting from a poor vantage point and having no chance of taking clear shots.

Duck :p

then send Gavin an email, he does shedloads of boxing, im sure he can give you a few pointers, Kipax has done some aswell i think

Dont wear white shirt, dont position yourself next to one of the fighters corners, watch out for the ropes, watch out for fighters coming towards you, dont let the ref hear you cursing at him for constantly getting in the way. Do be prepared to take plenty of shots, do be prepared to jump up on the edge of the canvas for "posed" shot at the end and enjoy yourself!
