Am looking to order a lastolite 6x7 hilite background with train and Elinchrom BXRi lighting kit from warehouse express to be used initially at home for portraits but with time I'm hoping to venture into event & mobile portrait photography. I am also looking into turning a large double garage with pitched roof into a permanent studio sometime next year.

A couple of questions, how portable is the 6x7 hilite? is it easily set up on location and in clients homes?!?

with regards to the lighting I was looking at the twin 500 kit, any views? would I be better with the 500/250 combination be better with this set up!

My preference is to get the best I can so that I'm not having to upgrade all the time!!!

Any help much appreciated

I think the 500's might be overkill on reflection! would the 250/500 be a better combo with the 250 lighting the hilite and the 500 lighting the subject??

Don't want to set the hilite on fire!!!

I have the 6x7. It does take some practice to put down and fold into it's bag but with practice you can manage it.

I use 2 lencarta 200 w lights and they are powerful enough to light it.

Thanks moojii, I see there are quite a few vids on youtube explaining the art of folding the hilite away!!!

I'm swaying towards the Elinchrom 250/400 kit with a view to adding either a second 250 or 500 at a later date. I like the idea of having the skyport technology built in but having said that the flash centre have some BX400 kits at very reasonable price too.....arggghhhhh what to do!!!!!

I've used Elinchron lights a few times in the past and found them fine. And anyone I've spoken to about them has told me that in the longer term they're generally reliable.

The one reservation I have about them is the price of the modifiers (compared to the Bowens type) although if you've budgeted for that then it's obviously not a major issue.

Just ordered - Elinchrom BXRi 500 kit, Lastolite Hilite 6x7 and sekonic L358 meter! Can't wait for delivery tomorrow so I can play.......!
