Advice - batch resizing images.

Hi,

I have about 400 images (last night's Pirelli Rally), currently 3 - 4 mb in size, that I want to resize to 800x600 or about 150kb.

I have tried PS2, PS3, and Irfan view, but I cant find a way of resizing the whole folder containing the images at one time.

Does anybody know of any software (free preferably), that will batch resize a whole folder at a time.

I thought I'd figured a way of doing it in windows, and ended up with MS Paint opening 400 separate windows:eek: :lol:

I cntrl/alt/deleted about 20 windows before my computer decided it had had enough and crashed.:bang:

If I can't find a way of doing it, it's gonna be a long day!

If you're using CS2 go to File > Scripts > Image processor, it's all in there.

Or download the trial for Elements 5 and use the batch processing facility in there.
 
Whenever I have wanted to do a bulk change and re-file I have used the 'action' pallete. Create a new folder for the images and then start an action recording.Once you have created the recording for that job you can keep it for a next time. Use the 'help' to get detailed instruction. Sorry cannot be more specific- I always struggle to do it 'cause I do it so rarely.:thinking:

Sorry looks like 'Hacker' has the best method. I'll try that next time. Thankd 'H'.
 
I've just used 'Visualizer' that Hacker recommended. It's brilliant!!

All you do is open the programme, click on the folder containing the images you wish to resize, choose the size and compression ratio (I always use 85%), and click 'resize' It's so easy that even I can do it.

I resized 400 images to 800x600 @85% compression rate, and it did the whole lot in less than 20 minutes. Not only that, it left the origiginal files completely untouched, and save the resized images in a new folder, within the original.:clap:

Better yet, the programme is free, and is only 4mb in zize.

I cant see that Doug... to be honest. once you download the program....it puts a "resize image" on the right click of your mouse.

any photo you open, or folder full of photos, you right click and say resize. thats it....done.

Doesnt change the originals either.

So you did!! It wasnt Hacker after all!

Just used Hackers method for roughly the same job Plus added RAW changes to the conversion. Bout same time but in PS..

I always use Canon DPP, I find the batch processing easy and fast to use. This software came with the camera. I also use this for raw converting as I cannot find a plugin to open EOS 5D raw files in CS...Ian
 
Just write an action in Photoshop - then its fully customizable for what you want and very easily duplicated / modified.

One of the best features for workflow in Photoshop.
 
Thats the one I meant in my first post but have not used it enough for it to be easy for me. Thanks for the back-up mho01.
