Just pondering over what to do. I have a MacBook Pro with a 256Gb ssd that is nearly full. I save all my photos and music on it, with it centrally backed up to a Synergy NAS with 2 mirrored 1tb drives.

The NAS also has centrally accessed films on it.

Should I upgrade my ssd to a 500Gb ssd or try a lot cheaper hybrid 1tb drive? or any other solutions.

I basically want to keep my photos safe after loosing a lot of them in a hard drive mishap but also want easy/fast access for LR4 and editing.

thanks for any thoughts.

it's a mbp 15@ early 2011. sounds daft but I think it has a optical drive, I can just not remember using it. At work at the mo so will look later, thanks for the idea

is it a mbp with optical drive? if so maybe look at replacing that with a large storage drive?

+1 DVD drive is becoming useless. You can get USB enclosure for it if you ever need it

Just checked, it does have an optical drive. Thanks for the advice, I did not know it was an option so cheers there. I have a 500Gb hard drive that will fit, from a buffalo usb drive that I do not really use.
Or should I get a ssd?

You're best keeping the main drive as an SSD and using the 2nd bay to host a new drive.

I would look at getting a 1TB with the prices as they are.

This one is £60 with a 3 year warranty. http://www.ebuyer.com/489564-hgst1tb-travelstar-internal-hard-drive-0s03381

All you then need is a drive cradle that the drive sits in where your DVD was and an external USB caddy for the DVD drive itself. You can buy both on eBay for just a few ££££s

Optical drive removed, fitted into USB caddy, second SSD fitted. Thanks for the info.
