Advice about Pure Storm

i've been using the site for a long while, and the moderators seem fine and are almost as tolerant as the mods on this forum, net-model, purestorm and model mayhem have their pros and cons but for those seeking amateur models or the occasional pro i'd say purestorm was my weapon of choice

professionally speaking you should have been following the rules surely kskitt rather than using a "sod it" attitude

i'd say it goes two ways, but obviously i don't know the ins and outs of it

Well believe it or not, you're doing infinitely better than me, I can't get them to reply to emails at all!

I opened another account with them two days ago, Making sure all exif data was intact etc, and guess what it's still awaiting approval!

Don't suppose you've got an email address for them :shrug:

I'm on all the other model sites with no problem, but now it's just the principal of the thing :bang:

I never saw anything in the rules that said you couldnt use one account, and post as a model and photographer

Also i never saw anything that states that i cannot use 2 different emails for 2 different accounts. I have just sent them an email asking them to clarify where "stroppy little madam" is a reason for having an account refused.

Bummer! I honestly dont know what else to suggest. I just cannot believe how rude their admin staff are.
 
Purestorm is currently the premier UK site for models and photographers (by quite a big margin) and as such is a huge magnet for all sorts of pervs, chancers and scammers. The moderators there have a massive task filtering them out so that a more positive environment is provided for models, particularly new and inexperienced ones. The best suggestion would be to join as a paying member (thus proof of ID) rather than as a free member and ensure your profile pics are relevant to the site and of a reasonable standard. You can always use your mum/wife/girlfriend/sister/whoever to model for you so you have some relevant portfolio pics to get started.

Honestly i have quite frank and to the point communication with the mods on that site and they're always pretty forthcoming about issues, something they had to say on the matter was that purestorm is not intended as a 'contact site' for camera owners wishing to get in touch with models, it is a portfolio hosting site for models and established model photographers, they try to filter out suspicious photographer account signups as a model safety measure.

As far as i'm aware all the moderators are parents and would rather have a hundred disappointed rejected photographer applicants than see one model put at risk which i suppose in the grand scheme of things makes some sense

if theres anything specific anyone would like me to bring up feel free to pm/reply on thread and i'll do my best to pass on concerns/issues and see if they'll reply (obviously they're under no obligation though)

Purestorm is not unique in that problem.

The problem with that is that you have to sign up as a free member before you can pay and have your account upgraded. Not being able to sign up as a free member in the first place... You see the problem there?

What you're basically saying there is "if you're not paying you're not welcome", which seems inkeeping with the attitudes of the administration. Borders on extortion tbh.
 
I run a website similar to Purestorm called madcowmodels.co.uk We have over 1000 members, and we accept photographic models, promotional models, photographers and studios.

Models can have both a model and promotional model account.
Photographers can have both a studio and photog account.

I have no issue with photographers saying they do modeling work and vice versa.

We offer 2 memberships - free and paid. The main limitation with paid is the limit of photos displayed on your profile (5).

The forum on board is relatively new and is therefore quite quiet, but we get a lot of internal emails sent so we can only presume a fair amount of work is organized via that.

We dont have strict acceptance procedures, and the account can be used whilst its in acceptance.

I hope I haven't broken any rules, as it is relevant to the topic.

I'm sure they have a massive job to do, but so do Model mayhem and Net-Model, both of which I've joined and used with no problems at all. I'd love to pay to upgrade my account, which is what I've done with the previous two sites, but you can't upgrade until you've been approved.

What I think is a shame is they don't have the courtesy to reply to emails, even if it was to say"sod off" :)

Anyway hopefully it'll get sorted (but I won't hold my breath)
 
It took me about a day to be approved. The site seems really well laid out and easy to use and there seem no shortage of models on there. I haven't used any yet but probably will soon.

It's already been worth joining for me as I found a reasonably priced light meter in their classifieds section.

Just got home from an absolutely awesome group shoot at the Victoria Baths in Manchester yesterday with a big bunch of the folks from tfpmodels. Will be posting some pics up as soon as I can start to go through and process them. :)

I had no problem joining purestorm. was a memeber in less than 24 hours after I applied.

Lol thats true, how are you supposed to get approved if you cant contact their models... I know, contact your mother! Maybe she will do a shoot for you.
Mind you, they would probably have something horrible to say about that too.

My profile has been up months and still no approval. Mind you, I don't think my Bio is finished :P

Still good if you can get some people to model for some prints or CD's
No reason why you can't broaden your market, even if there are alot of "wanna-be's" lol
 
I haven't had any problems with any of the sites I have registered on, even when I barely had a model image to my credit. I think sometimes it is a case of who is doing the moderating rather than what you are uploading or the type of account you want to create.
I have found that some sites tend to have their strengths in different areas. I found Net Model to have the best forum and Web Models to be the best for me to book a shoot. I recently cancelled my subscription for Net Model because it just wasn't that useful to me and the foreign transaction surcharges on my membership payments.
Haven't been on Purestorm too long but have had one shoot so far. I do like the layout of the site though, particularly the casting calls and how you can filter them. Still in two minds about paying though. I have found that the majority of castings I have applied for the models haven't even bothered to respond.
TFP Models has been similar in that respect. Some models post a casting then never return to the site! I have a slowly brewing project ongoing with a model on TFP for a Suicide Girls type shoot. One day we will actually shoot it but in the meantime we kick ideas around every few weeks. Not sure I would recommend it as a reliable source of models.

Never had an issue with getting an account, had one for a couple of years now...
