Yes
not a big item - but what's the way forward..?

bought a Hoya HMC 52mm Yellow filter @ £8

case is too small - wont fit inside
front glass has a 4mm scratch

do I...
advise seller...[he must have known]
send back
ask for refund

sounds straightforward but i read here the return must be 'trackable' -or Seller can say Not Returned - hardly cost-effective on £8............

more interested than worried.....:D.............john

Advise the seller of the fault via eBay and ask for full refund. You will have to use trackable delivery otherwise eBay will refuse the refund.

It's either the cost of postage or full £8 wasted.....

Definitely approach the seller in a non confrontational manner first off and air your concerns and see what they'll do for you.

If they're not willing to talk or decline any sort of involvement then open a case with ebay citing that the item was received as damaged / not in line with seller's description.

thanks both

'trackable' would cost me about £5 but at least the barsteward wont have the £8...:D

or

just leave negative feedback at the onset to warn others
and wave goodbye to the £8 [less £5]

No, give the vendor chance to make amends.

my mistake --- the postage was £0.08 [guess that's where i got the £8 from..:bonk:

and i was the ONLY bid at........................................£0.95....:D

i assume - pee'd off with the price - he has sent me rubbish knowing full well i would NOT raise a refund for £1.75

sooooo...do i now leave -ve and wash my hands of it ...

sad i know.....really must get off here.....:(

Postage was £0.08 or £0.80?

Have you actually contacted the seller yet? The chances are they'll just refund the full amount to avoid the bad feedback and won't ask you to bother sending the filter back.

Eh? Large letter + recorded = £1.50 (ish)

I'd be very surprised if the seller intentionally sent you a dodgy item. Send him a message and I'll almost guarantee that he will sort you out.

well i thought 'recorded' was a flat fee + postage -- will ask tomorrow

I have now sent him a 'not as described' message

the filter wasn't even 'IN' the case - must assume he knew this

sorry to waste anyones time .......I'll wait and see...............

I would just send them a polite message saying what's happened first. See what their response is.

I've had varied, some just ask for it to be returned and will refund so you lose postage. One guy just posted me a replacement item and told me to keep the original. If I'm selling stuff then I usually refund it, but I don't sell broken stuff or crap so the buyer generally pays postage to return it unless it gets damaged in transit in which case I refund and let them keep it, then claim off royal mail.

My wife sells a lot of crystal on ebay,we think it will cost you about £2.30 first class recorded to send back.
Speak to the seller,if no joy open a dispute through paypal it is quicker with them.

Certificate proof of posting. That is suffice. As long as you keep the receipt then the post office will cover the costs if the seller decides to say "item not returned".

.
well well ...:D

Message from merchant: full refund as requested. Regards Mike
Amount: 1.75 GBP''

to be 'fair' I shall leave +ve feedback now.......thanks all

Good result in the end. Leave qualified +ve feedback though. Say item wasn't good, but that he resolved the issue well.

thanks all - bit of a 'storm in a tea cup' actually

having read some of the horror stories here, I thought I'd ask.......

There's no harm in asking advice, far preferrable than jumping straight in with a NAD case or a neg.

Regardless of the ebay horror stories I'm still of the belief that 99% of ebay sellers are totally genuine and willing to sort out any issues rather than receive a neg.

The other 1%, well lets not go there :|

Personally I'd always try to resolve it amicably, give the seller a chance to at least try and fix things. If it costs more to send back then dont bother, only people benefiting would be royal mail :P
Glad its sorted.

Never always use the negative feedback as your first option. Contact the seller first. :)
