Shreddies:
Does anyone else find the thought of "Nana's knitting Shreddies" vaguely disgusting? I used to really like them but now all I get when I eat them is the vision of lots of old ladies coughing and spitting over them as they are created <shudder>

Has anyone else noticed that the "dirty" clothes look as if they have just been made, then ironed, then has some kind of food stain added - either that or whoever wears them never does anything that will make them dirty and always irons them before they go in the washing machine

I always hated the Ford Focus advert - the one where they're playing musical instruments made up from various parts of the car.

To be honest, there are quite a lot of adverts I'm not keen on, including the endless ads for sofas and beds. I have to laugh when they come out with the usual "sale must end this weekend" line, and the following week you see the same advert again!

I did like the recent revival of the Milky Way advert about the red and blue cars racing together. It brought back happy memories of my childhood.

I like the Hyundi adverts that sponsor films ... the car is amost always in the garage ... which doesn't really look that good!

There's a talk radio station called 702 in South Africa, with a lot of irritating advertising on it. I called them and suggested a cringe advert poll. Ask listeners to call in and vote for the "cringe ad of the week", the one that had them reaching for the mute button and swearing to boycott the product and the manufacturer. Someone phoned me back and said they quite liked the idea, but couldn't use it because it might impact their advertising revenue. I don't know, I would have thought a manufacturer would have wanted to know if their ads were having the reverse effect!

I hate some ads and often change channels when they come on (ie the Go Compare one with the opera squalker and the Galaxy onw with the sepia toned corpse) but haven't boycotted a company purely because of a crap ad (that I can remember!).

Just one phrase "Greeeeeen Army!!!!"

I will never try Aviva for a quote on principle, their entire range or adverts are so annoying and appear to be on every other advert.

webuyanycar adverts on the radio. I usually hear this on the radio when I'm in the gym. Makes me want to start throwing the weights out through the windows in rage.

Any perfume advert.........

I've never bought my wife perfume because the adverts drive me up the wall

French, B&W aaaaaarrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhggggghhhhhhggghhhh :bang:

I bet Paul’s fed up with people doing poo’s at his house.

How many of these adverts do you feel are misleading as well as irritating?

I'm not sure if misleading would be the word to use in this case, but going back to my previous remark about sofas, I've seen instances where they claim to have reduced the price from say, £1,500 down to about £600. Now, I don't know if they're telling the truth regarding the original selling price, but I'm assuming that at £600 they're still making money on it, so just imagine the profit margins selling that same item at full price!

Go Compare!

And other comparison websites - hate the ads!

"Simples!" ;)

(ok its compare-the-meerkat not GoCompare but its still a comparison website :))

I bet Paul’s fed up with people doing poos at his house.

"I'm off to see Paul" is the new euphemism to replace "Dropping the kids off at the pool" etc.

The small print on their "in store" adverts usually reads "Previously on sale in one of our stores for a minimum of 6 weeks", it could have been at £600 at every other store as long as it was at £1500 for 6 weeks at 1 store.

I used to work in a sports shop when still at school and they often listed new products above RRP so that that price could be used in advertising at a later date.

but YES, they are still making a substantial profit on it at £600 they would never make a loss on anything.

Thanks Andrew for your explanation.

I have. A loathsome radio ad for windscreen repairs, of all things (OK, they're a vital service in SA!), featuring a squeaky voiced poppie.

i love this.

all the adverts you are slating...

they have worked!!

you know what the company is called and what they do ;)

I have complained to the ASA about 2 adverts, both of which were taken off air, and rest assured I will NEVER buy anything from either company again.
So if that is a successful advertising campaign, well done.

I see what you mean but what use is brand awareness when your awareness is that you will boycott that brand?

I hated the M+S 'it's not just food ads', and am pretty unlikely to buy any food from m+s because of them, even though they have now changed. It's the smugness.

just becuase I know the advert and company does not mean I will use them.

I can recognise a Take That song on the radio, just means it time to turn it off not go out and buy the single.

yeh, thats a fair point, but one of the points of the adverts is to raise awareness, so that part has been accomplished.

and out of interest, Tazmaniandevil, which adverts did you make complaints about?

That one is on the radio too. Does my head in.
