Hi

I was just wandering what the actual advantages of a DSLR over a high end point and shoot are. Sorry if it is a bit of aa newbie question but i need the advice.

Thanks

Image quality
Build quality
Zoom range
Depth of field
Better AF
Better anti-noise capabilites
Better in low-light (kinda depends on the lens but DSLRs will still be better in low light situations)
They look and feel awesome
Vast range of lenses and accessories

That's just to name a few. Basically EVERYTHING is better on a DSLR. Except maybe size/weight, but for alot of people it's not a problem.

The additional flexibility is what does it for me. A dedicated macro lens will always give you better IQ than a macro function on a compact. Likewise, you try finding a compact, regardless of how high end, that will let you take shots at 10mm or 600mm. You can get lenses to cover both of those eventualities with a DSLR. The bigger camera will also have the advantage of feeling snugger and thus more stable in your hands.

The other advantages are all covered above, I think.....

excellent thanks alot guys, i was not sure what the difference was except i knew it is better... nowtime to scrimp and save!!

Few more things:

Bigger buffer
Bigger image size
RAW capture
Faster, better user interface
Faster FPS

DSLR`s are fantastic at emptying your bank account.....;)
