Advance warning

Nice one Brian :D

Just came home today to find a big black box kindly delivered via the apple store containing 1 nice new shinny MacPro  complete with free printer and ipod too

If i'd have been closer to the car when I bought the mac, i'd have taken them up on the offer or a printer and claim the cash back on it.

but the imac is sooooo big and I was parked across the other side of town.

Congrats on the toys Glen

I've got through another day without opening the box :D

Well I may as well join in on the fun now,
after much deliberation I have opted to upgrade my intel imac 1.83 17" with a mac book pro 2.4 (mobility) and a HP 2408 flat screen (for editing at home).
Woo hoo!

I've opened the box to make sure its in there, but not taken it out yet. :cuckoo:

Gonna wait till the weekend to set it up, with the advice of cowasaki, I've bought a new 1TB samsung spinpoint HD to stick in it too :D

so. why arent you unwrapping it and seeing if it works? your gonna be so annoyed when you open it and find a great big dent in the side after having it for a week:)

It's staying sealed until the software turns up, otherwise i'll end up chucking all manner of rubbish on it.

:)

Mines out the box, nearly all setup and boy is it good :D:woot:

D-Day +8

Well.......the box is Still sealed up

today has been an odd day tbh.....lots of little jobs to do around the house....but i did come sooooooo close to opening it.

I'll wager a nice crispy £10 on it still being sealed by Thursday

:)

I'll lend you a nice big hammer to help open it :D

I hope thats Thursday 25th December.:nono:

Come on, open it! Mine's been used constantly for over a year without one crash... This one was taken just after I bought it last year (excuse the P&S date.time stamp)

24-inch 2.4Ghz iMac with bits of audio gear...

The software i'd been waiting for arrived today.....well technically yesterday if you look at the time :D

There will be a small ceremony on thursday around lunchtime to mark the unveiling of the mighty mac.

well the imac has been brought forth from the shadows and is fully functional !

by **** the screen is BIG and of soooooooo clear

About bleedin' time :)

Hope you enjoy it mate

i hope you finally got round to making that phone call!

.. and after all that wait you find out that you've ordered the Windows version of CS3 and LR :p

Congratulations on having the mental abitlity to be so patient while a few of us were here plucking out our hair in anticipation.

this screen is sooooooooo big, it takes loads of effort to get around on it and all the button on the key board are in the wrong place

And who's nicked the windows key !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in the words of Andy Pitkin ............ I don't like it!!!

:D

you'll get used to it, and wonder why you didn't do it years before:)
bung a load of extra ram in it, it will fly

The trick to getting on with OSX is not expecting it to behave exactly like windows...

it's nothing like windows at all!

The simplicity of installing an application caused me problems.....it's that easy, you don't think it's the right way to go

Once you get used to it DF you wont want to go back, can't believe I did not switch earlier.

But it is a personal preference and some don't like it.....

But its great.................

There are a few tips and tricks on my website www.upgradeyourmac.co.uk that might help if you are newish to the mac!

I switched myself and 4 kids to the Mac after buying just one ! Now we have an iBook, 3 macbooks, 1 macbook pro, 1 mac mini and 1 mac pro !

They are a customer company too. My eldest daughters power supply for her macbook packed up when it was 14 months old, I thought it was 10 months old and took it back and they changed it anyway !!

If you have any technical problems/questions just ask....

Still need to upgrade to CS4 though!

cowasaki,

Thanks for the link

thanks for the link

Still having issues trying to right click things to check their properties, must be a different process for that as it doesn't work. Seems to be no option in the mouse settings pane to get windowsesque right click functionality.

hold down ctrl and left click, that should be the same as a windows right click mate.

There is a way to have a right click, I think it's in the system preferences somewhere, I changed my mouse from the apple jobbies (they don't last long) to a logictech trackman and then right click performed exactly the same as windows does.

Glad youi've opened it now! Looking forward to seeing pics!

Right click does work, its just very clever :p

Like Thomas says, you can either ctrl-click (which is the standard for right click, what they used to do before the mightmouse came along).

Or, LIFT your fingers off completely and tap the right of the mouse. There are sensors under the lid of the mighymouse that recognise when your fingers are even gently touching the mouse, and if it detects that at the same time as a click, it thinks its a left click.
It took me a while to get used to it, but once i did it was second nature.

However, I got sick of cleaning the mightymouse and put it back in its mousehouse, and used my cordless logitech instead.

I'm looking forward to the learning curve:)

It's a sexy bit of kit though :D

Apple mice originally had one button so they all work with one button and use ctrl. There is an option in system preferences under keyboard and mouse that shows the mouse and if you look the right button's default operation is the same as that of the left button. Just change this and all will be well. Like Marcel said you need to make sure you are not touching the left button whilst pressing the right button.

The option you want is "get info" this gives information about a file.

Oh and sorry anyone using my site I haven't had time to update it with the latest additions!

i turned off the mouse squeeze and activated right click, its the only thing wrong with the apple mac, mouse is bobbins.

squeeze feature consigned to the corner of a very dark room and the mouse set to secondary button on the right side.

now if i could just darken the screen, even with the brightness slider n minimum is retina burningly bright

I think the wireless mighty mouse is by far the best mouse I've ever used, despite needing to clean it every so often.

I agree but the right click is a pain in the proverbial. I have my middle button (press the roller ball in) set as right click because my mouse constantly looses all ability to right click.

If you really do not like the mighty mouse then there are a couple of bluetooth mice that you can buy and use as an alternative.

DF any chance of some pictures of the new machine to stick on my web site under the iMac section, just whenever you get chance. I have a large collection of Apple machines but no iMacs at all!

There seems to be a move towards the Mac from the PC big style on TP :)

Is anyone interested in me doing a tip/hint/tutorial a day thread like Marcel's self portrait a day? I have a load on my site but I think I can come up with something new everyday then add them to my site too.

I could even do requests if people have questions on how to do things etc. So long as one of the mods can keep an eye on it and jump on any Mac v PC diversions :bang:

DF/Marcel etc what do you think?

Personally I think that's a great idea, and would much appreciated I'm sure

I've been using mac's for a few years now and I've still managed to pick up some useful tips from your site :)
