I'm fortunate to live in a area with a good choice of broadband and speeds. I know a lot of you guys who live out in the sticks are not so fortunate to have as much choice, so hopefully you guys on the slower speeds can answer a question on behalf of a relative who also lives in the sticks.

My sisters broadband speeds are abysmally slow, no Cable in the area, here exchange is just 1 mile away as the crow flies only capable of ADSL but also offers ADSL MAX according to Samknows website.
She is currently on adsl and a download speed of approx 1.5mbps and if she has a good night maybe hitting 2 mbps, She has the latest Sky hub. Router is connected to the test socket on the first socket that comes into the house but makes no difference. Would there be any advantage moving over to adsl max? How much extra speed is she likely to see and does Sky broadband charge more for it?

Thanks

ADSL Max is an old product and is still 8Mbps, like the original ADSL, just with rate adaptive upload and higher upload speed in its premium form.

No ADSL2 / 2+ available? Can you link the exchange listing on samknows?

It's highly unlikely that you will get a reseller for max now, it's a legacy product. ADSL2+ is now the only option for both BT and LLU, you can still get "Up to 8Mbps", but it is now Sync-Limited ADSL2 Technology. SLA on ADSL means diddly now Neil, the only comms that BT provide real SLA's on are now FoD for Business, EFM and Leased, you can get SLA from the reseller, but Openreach don't need to honour it if it is a line fault.

Just had a look at the exchange, have you considered the Pigeon and USB Flash Memory solution? On a more serious note, as the exchange is deemed "BT Wholesale", it may only have ASDL1 services on it if BT have done no upgrade since 2006!!

Sounds like she might have to invest in a pigeon :-) just read the story on it for the first time

Same as on my Exchange (Whipsnade), double check the wiring is ok, and a router change can also make a difference. My BT one was always useless, I used my trusty FritzBox for the last 4 years just fine but couldn't get it to go over 2.5Mbps in November...On Black Friday I orders a Billion router and I'm back up at 6.6Mbps again...About as good as it will get with my distance from the exchange...
