Hi,

I am helping a friend of mine with his ADSL router - he is not very tech savvy.

He currently has a Echolife HG520b router (looks like it came with TalkTalk) which the signal does not reach all over the house, in fact I get a fairly low signal from only approx 20ft away, so I suggested he get a new one.

I don't think he has infinity/infinity2 - when I did a speed test it was only about 4mb or so - however he did say though the telephone exchange is only down the road.

1) I don't have much experience with ADSL routers, so what information do I need off him before I can swap it out?
2) Which router shall I get? I need one with a bigger range than what he has.
3) Do I need a ADSL or ADSL2 router?

Sorry for the noob questions.

Thanks.

Thanks neil - I had a look at that link - but unfortunately doesn't answer my questions mentioned above.

I think most routers use ADSL2+ these days.

You need his user name and password along with his SSID name and password.

As for what you need, time for a wee Google as there are lots of reviews out there.

Is he still with TalkTalk, might be worth a call to them if he is and ask for a new router.

Thanks guys. Will give it a go.cheers

If he is with talktalk and also has a phone package make sure he asks for the 4 port router as the 2 port one is rubbish.

All talk talk routers are rubbish, I'm still in dispute with them and on my 4th router, can't even bridge it to my asus router, have to use my old belkin instead, rant over :-/
