Just received a "Questionnaire" from Adobe asking me for 15 minutes of my time telling me all my replies would help them develop their software.

The very first question asks "What Year Were You Born In"? Can anyone please tell me what on earth has that got to do with Adobe or anything to do with the way I use their Software? Or could it be yet another scam delivered to my inbox.

It tells them your age which in turn tells them a lot of other things. For example, anyone born in the 1950s will have significant experience of using film while anyone born in 2000 will almost certainly have no experience of using film. That film usage will inform our opinions on what makes a good picture. Age will also affect our computer skills. Again, someone born in the 1950s will have learnt their computer skills as an adult while someone born in 2000 will have started using computers in their infancy - this in turn informs our approach to computers and software. As Adobe produce software to edit photographs, these things are very important to them.

I agree.
That's an intrusive and unnecessary question.

Most surveys that include that question have a [I'd rather not say] box - are Adobe so insensitive they don't give that option?

Alternatively...LIE! :)

If you'd prefer not to answer the question accurately (I never do) just select a year within a decade of your true year of birth if you'd like the questionnaire analysis to be somewhat useful/accurate, or give a ridiculous answer if you object to the question entirely. Whatever, one question shouldn't stop you from participating and providing potentially helpful information.

Personally if my date of birth is requested for something, I give the nerdy answer of 1/1/1970 - the start of UNIX time. This date is both somewhat obviously fictitious, and within a decade of my real birth year so still a useful answer.
(It should go without saying, but...I always give my correct birth date when legally required. Otherwise...)

Is that the one where they ask if I would recommend Lightroom to others?

If so, I also say no, and then "because it is only available on subscription.........".

I'm a little more generous (after all, I pay for the subscription myself), but always mention the subscription as something that prevents them getting a higher score.
