After being in beta for some twelve months Adobe has today announced the availability of Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 'Final' at an introductory price of $199 (until April 30; after that $299). This new offloading, browsing, organizing and editting tool promises improved professional workflow for everyone including easy to use pick/reject features and tagging. In addition Lightroom leverages Adobe Camera Raw meaning it can read and display hundres of Raw formats. Photoshop Lightroom should ship in mid-February.

I wonder if the beta version is going to time out... that's free and does quite a lot of things that I like.
Not sure I wanna pay £100+ on top of PS2

It says in the article that the current beta will expire at the end of February :(

Bummer, i only just downloaded it too :bang:

I have not tried as I just got my workflow sorted with bridge however a friend who downloaded the beta says it's ace!

There no mention of free copies for licenced Raw Shooter Pro users - Adobe promised this when the bought out pixmantec!! I WANT MY FREE COPY!!!!!!!

You know what - this is the same amount in £GBP as it is in $US!!! in fact just slightly more at £205.63! How rubbish is that given there are nearly two dollars to the pound????

That will coincide with the release date: 19th of Feb.
I look forward to my free software download to replace my Rawshooter Pro.

With the exchange rate this would be a total bargain - if what Johhnyreb says is true then Im not so sure I'd bother, good software but not sure if I would pay £200+ for it  we'll see.

I've just checked the Adobe Store UK and they are showing it at £146.88 (£125.00 + VAT) on pre order.

With the pre-order deduction running until April, its not so bad. Still a big urine extraction from Adobe (again) though!

Also, i still cant find any reference to the free upgrade path RawShooter Pro users as was promised by Adobe at the time of Pixmantex aquisition...... I need my small dark room:annoyed:

Once the final is out I'll wait for reviews. I didn't really like the beta and I didn't really trust using it for my work.

Does anyone know whether it is fundamentally different to Elements then ... all the things stated here are done extremely well in Elements as far as I can see ... and at a much more realistic price too ...

:p

Ven it's nothing like Elements or CS or PSP, it's more of a fancy raw converter come organiser. It does have the basic editing features like rotate and flip plus it will print or save web galleries of your 'collection', words like collection, library, slideshow appear a lot in it.

Have used both aperture and lightroom and after the initial learning curve of aperture it has more to offer. Although a little more exspensive, if your a serious photographer and do lots of commercial, weddings and sports aperture is the way to go.

If you want quick, easy, straight forward editing with easy user interface then go lightroom.

Really, it is a fifty fifty if you use macs, windows users, this is the closet thing you will get to aperture.

King.

King that is the best sum up I could ask for. The problem is I tried aperture and well it was anything but easy to use. I guess like anything there is a learning curve but in minutes I had lightroom figured out but after the 30 day trial of Aperture I had given up and only used it twice.
