Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Edition

Yep, it's exactly the same. Just bear in mind that generally educational licenses prohibit the production of any commercial work, and the license often expires once you graduate (at which point you simply upgrade to a full commercial seat).

I know you have found the answer, but the only difference is that you won't be able to (pay to) upgrade to CS6.

Though people say upgrade every other version anyway to make it worthwhile. ;)

Feature wise they are exactly the same, and you will get all the Adobe Camera Raw updates (if you use it, and even if you don't, just update anyway ;)) until CS6 comes out at least.

Edit-The not being able to use for commercial work is no longer applicable I think. And unless you tell them you are no longer a student, how do they know? When my friend bought the Student version of CS5, nowhere did they ask how long the course was. As it was she was on a 10 week Photoshop course last September. And she is still using it with no problems.

Oh yes, you're correct - student editions may now be used for commercial purposes. Regarding using the software once your course is over - while the license is technically perpetual, the expectation is that you'll upgrade to a commercial license because it's, well, the right thing to do.
