adobe cc taking over my computer

I have this problem sometimes on one of my Macs - just start it twice - if the CC dialog box comes up, just get out of that and start LR again from the App in Applications

(I have both CC and LR standalone on one of my Macs)

ok ....i'm back and we now have lightroom6 but how long before adobe change it again there were no user adjustable items in the install so just have to wait X amount of months to do this all again :(:( all edits are still there and seems to have gone back straight to the last catalogue i had :) big sigh of relief.

did you delete Creative Cloud Installer before you reinstaller LR6?

i think it was the app in applications where the problem lay i tried reopening in several ways and the only way i could get it up without cc was to open my old lr5

It would be unusual for it just to change behaviour. Have you re-installed, updated, patched or modified the install recently (or installed Photoshop or anything similar?)

Do you have Adobe Creative Cloud installed?
hi i missed this earlier the only change i have made to lr6 was to download the nik free programs that google have just given away i wonder if there was cc added in there somewhere? no cc installed

You said external memory, but you meant external storage.
External memory is not a good place to save anything as it is erased upon shutting off the flow of electricity to the device.
Beyond that, memory can only open and hold data for working on it when it is first placed on the hard drive(storage) and then accessed as in opening the files you have saved to the HDD.
It's not possible to save a file to memory. Files are saved to storage and accessed by memory.
its ok i knew what he meant :):)

for what its worth adobe wont just move you to CC as its a completely different thing. its subscription based for a start so unless you agreed to pay them every month with your payment details..

Indeed, and if it does put you on CC without you having to pay for it, i'd say crack on as you get extra functionality over LR6 i believe

I thought that the problems was that the OP had both a standalone version of LR and a paid subscription of LR on his computer, (which I have)

i still have LR5 and CC on my PC (not gotten around to uninstalling 5), neither interact with each other (assuming you took a copy of your LR cat and upgraded it when connecting it to CC).

but it still wouldn't just move it without user interaction (and in fact LR cats are not downgradable once upgraded to the newer version).

It is not the Catalogue that I have problems with it is the fact that I have the Creative Cloud, ("control app") on my computer and sometimes it tries to open LR CC ......... which I have blocked because I have it on two other machines ..... all I do in situations like that is to open LR6 from the app in the Applications folder

I only have one - sometimes straight into LR6 ..... sometimes in an opening dialog box for Creative Cloud

This seems to have happened to others who have been met with great disinterest from Adobe. I gave a link above.

It's quite common to use "memory" for hard drive and given that He wrote "external" I thought his original comment was quite clear and helpful.

I don't know how it skipped my attention… really!
You've obviously been storing your memories in RAM and must have rebooted your brain. Happens to me all the time,

Happens to me all the time,

The way I see it, the two of us should create
a club: The RAM Busters…
must work, plenty of potential good membership!

Just 1 more question, how many lrcat backups do i need to keep. My most recent is backed up to the cloud do i need the several others i have on my hd, or can i delete them and just use the latest copy. cheers Mike.

I got out of anything from that invasive software maker
from the moment they went CC with subscription.

That permitted me to discover alternatives that have pro-
ven equal or better and are developing much faster…

There is an other world out there!
…and my MACs are Adobe free!
But you can still use Lightroom as a standalone with the normal one off payment.

OP - do you have a card registered with Adobe and are they taking money now for CC? I assume you paid for LR 6 with a one off normal payment?

No i paid online via amazon as an upgrade from lr5 but i did try a trial of cc which has expired but seems to be in my system somewhere but not immediately obvious. i have an adobe account but there is no subscription to lrcc on it.or even a way to cancel the trial whenever i go on the adobe site the first thing it asks is do you want to go cc.i have even emailed them questions about this problem telling them i'm happy with my standalone but it seems they are only interested in getting me on to cc.similar to a camera thread on here i'm only on adobe as its where i started and i understand it. so changing to another editor is not really an option took me 10 yrs to get where i am with adobe.

If you dig hard enough you'll find the cc stuff, I foolishly download MacCleaner once and wouldn't leave me alone and stopped me updating something I wanted so I dug and dug till I got the last tiny bit. It's a lot of effort unless you really need to do it but a Google search can often throw up some pointers.

so I think the Kodiak fella was perfectly correct

Thanks Míke, but GT has got a point.

Since the community shares info, too soft edges
to definitions may be confusing… so I think that
I should have used storage. Technique oblige!
