I got out of anything from that invasive software maker
from the moment they went CC with subscription.

That permitted me to discover alternatives that have pro-
ven equal or better and are developing much faster…

There is an other world out there!
…and my MACs are Adobe free!

It would be unusual for it just to change behaviour. Have you re-installed, updated, patched or modified the install recently (or installed Photoshop or anything similar?)

Do you have Adobe Creative Cloud installed?

Daniel, what are you now using instead of Adobe products?

Restore to previous state any good?

Can you deinstall and reinstall Lightroom? When did you install Lightroom, did you download a trial by mistake? Sorry if these are stupid questions but this is very strange.

sorry gramps meant to reply with the other but it didn't add you i dont know how to restore to previous state is that a microsoft thing i'm on an imac

if i delete and reinstall won't all my catalogues go with the delete

what are you now using instead

All my RAWs are worked in sessions in Capture One Pro v.9.
This software, made in
Denmark, is where I perform 95%+ of
my workflow. All the usual expected tools plus healing and clo-
ning, layers, a set of powerful tools to control colours and many
other unique features including a conversion tool tab.

When it comes to pixel editing, I use the very cool Affinity Photo.
Vector graphics are done with Affinity Design but they are bringing
Affinity Publisher in autumn 2016 and this is the one I'm dreaming
of for my operations.

All three: Capture One Pro v.9., Affinity Photo and Affinity Design
have a 60 day trial (no hassle).

There is a safe way to protect your catalogues prior
to removal: copy them to an external memory.

In case you want to give CO9 a try, it can open your LR
catalogues and work with them.

It seems you are not the only one, have a look at https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1584746. I don't guarantee that you won't lose things but you are only installing the programme, it should leave other stuff alone although you might lose some links. If you do re-install make sure you have back ups. You could also try going back to before this happened and restore lightroom from TIme Machine. These are all a bit of a risk but less so if you have back ups and your stuck at the moment. You can try Adobe there's a number on the site above that may be of some use.

Wow, you mean MS isn't the only company trying to get people to upgrade software to more powerful versions that they can make more money on by selling more things?? I am shocked, to hear people talk it was an MS exclusive tactic.

Seriously though, uninstall all of it and reinstall only what you want, carefully reading and unchecking any boxes that lead to where you are now.

Memory won't hold the catalogues, you need to save to a new location on the hard drive (storage) as memory will empty when you reboot between uninstall and reinstall steps.
Just make a new folder on the desktop and move it there first.

NO!
…as these are stand alone you acquired previously
yes if you still have the installer.

An other way is to reset (to a prior time just before the
installation) using TimeMachine.

Sorry I don't know mac :)

Make sure you have the software to install including the key then you should be safe. Remove 6 as that is giving the problem, if things go awry you still have 5, I presume that isn't giving you aggro.

Trying the Time Machine option first might be worth a try, it's a lot easier.

When I said "external
memory" I meant "external memory"!

You said external memory, but you meant external storage.
External memory is not a good place to save anything as it is erased upon shutting off the flow of electricity to the device.
Beyond that, memory can only open and hold data for working on it when it is first placed on the hard drive(storage) and then accessed as in opening the files you have saved to the HDD.
It's not possible to save a file to memory. Files are saved to storage and accessed by memory.
