So, I have the latest version of Lightroom already, as a boxed product.. but having had a spring clean of my game subscriptions, I've freed up about £10 per month for 'other things', As I have no intention of signing up for any other monthyl pay games for the forseeable future, is it *really* worth using that to get the above instead? I don't use Photoshop anyway, but the Lightroom Mobile app on the iPad might be useful? Any thoughts?

Only you can decide if £10pm is worth Photoshop, and two (I think) features in Lightroom CC that aren't currently in the boxed version (haze and the new alignment tool), plus Lightroom mobile. I find the mobile app annoying, but I use a bit of Photoshop every now and then, and I don't object to paying a subscription for the pair of them.

Eventually new RAW formats will come along and we might all need go on CC versions, at the moment especially using Lightroom only I can't see the point.

True I suppose - I don't mind paying for it, as long as there is a tangible benefit - can I ask in what way you find the mobile app is annoying?

Slow, cumbersome and not a PC. I don't have a need to be away from my PC and working on RAW images, so I don't find the use case compelling, and the negative aspects of the app therefore get in the way.

I agree with EightBitTony!! I didn't upgrade to get the mobile app but I thought it might be handy for travel etc rather than lugging a laptop with me.

I found it really slow and awkward to use on my tablet but in all honesty I probably haven't given it a fair chance. I downloaded it messed about with it for one night and have never used it since!!

I upgraded as I couldn't transfer my ancient Photoshop CS2 to my new laptop due to it being on company licence and my Lightroom getting updated from 4 was a bonus.

I was wary of the mobile app to begin with but I have found a few useful places for it in my workflow.

I will admit I have barely bothered trying to edit with the thing, but this is what I do with it:

1) casual presentation to other people

2) selecting my Picks and grading. I can leaf through them easily on the Tube when it wouldn't be practical to get a laptop out.

3) it's a handy conduit for images taken on my phone back to be moved onto my laptop or desktop for editing in 'proper' Lightroom

4) checking how photos will appear on mobile devices

Since all I need to do is to add the images to a Collection it's a pretty simple way of getting things done l.

Thanks, some useful opinions there. I use Snapbridge now, so photos are transferred to my 'phone anyway for viewing on a larger screen... if that's all it's really much use for, then maybe the mobile app isn't worth the 'upgrade't on it's own. Buying Lightroom as a box every year is cheaper than CC as well... hmmm..

Remember to join Photoserge (free) for the CC discount, it's about 10% from memory, of you go the subs route.

Cheers for that - every penny helps, as they say!
